Municipal Light Plant
The Municipal Light Plant is a historic building in the Arena District of Downtown Columbus, Ohio. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. The structure includes an early 20th century Romanesque Revival building and a mid-20th century Art Deco addition. In 2022, the Municipal Light Plant won the Columbus Landmarks' James B. Recchie Design Award. Columbus () is the state capital and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Ohio. With a 2020 census population of 905,748, it is the 14th-most populous city in the U.S., the second-most populous city in the Midwest, after Chicago, and the third-most populous state capital. Arena District
The Arena District is a mixed-use planned development and neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio. The site was developed through a partnership between Nationwide Realty Investors, Ltd. (a subsidiary of Nationwide), the City of Columbus and private investors. Interpretation of the boundaries of the district are evolving as the neighboring blocks around the original site have seen additional commercial and residential development. The Arena District is named for Nationwide Arena. History A Mingo settlement is known to have occupied part of the land along the Scioto River in the 1790s. With the rapid expansion of Columbus, the land subsequently became an industrial corridor. In the 1870s the northern land was mostly small houses and fields. Downtown Columbus is the central business district of Columbus, Ohio. Downtown is centered on the intersection of Broad and High Streets, and encompasses all of the area inside the Inner Belt. Downtown is home to most of the tallest buildings in Columbus. The state capitol, the Ohio Statehouse, is located in the center of downtown on Capitol Square. Columbus Landmarks
The Columbus Landmarks Foundation, known as Columbus Landmarks, is a nonprofit historic preservation organization in Columbus, Ohio. The foundation is best-known for its list of endangered sites in the city and its annual design award, given to buildings, landscapes, and other sites created or renovated in Columbus.
