Muneer Fareed
Muneer Goolam Fareed (born 1956) is a Muslim scholar and the former secretary general of ISNA (Islamic Society of North America). Biography Muneer Fareed is a South African citizen of Indian descent. He studied Arabic language and literature at King Abdulaziz University, Mecca and got a theological license in Islamic studies (Ijazah) from the Darul Uloom Deoband, India. Fareed moved to the U.S. in 1989 and obtained his Ph.D. in 1994 from the University of Michigan, with his dissertation entitled, "''Legal Reform in the Muslim world: The anatomy of a scholarly dispute in the 19th and the early 20th centuries on the usage of Ijtihad as a legal tool.''" He worked as an imam of the Islamic Association of Greater Detroit from 1989 to 2000 and was an associate professor of Islamic studies at Wayne State University until 2006. Darul Uloom Deoband
The Darul Uloom Deoband is an Islamic seminary ( darul uloom) in India at which the Sunni Deobandi Islamic movement began. It is located in Deoband, a town in Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. The seminary was established by Muhammad Qasim Nanautavi, Fazlur Rahman Usmani, Sayyid Muhammad Abid and others in 1866. Mahmud Deobandi was the first teacher and Mahmud Hasan Deobandi was the first student. Fiqh Council Of North America
The Fiqh Council of North America (originally known as ISNA Fiqh Committee) is an association of Muslims who interpret Islamic law on the North American continent. The FCNA was founded in 1986 with the goal of developing legal methodologies for adopting Islamic law to life in the West. According to its website, the Fiqh Council traces its origins back to the Religious Affairs Committee of the then Muslim Student Association of the United States and Canada established in the 1960s. Dr. Sayyid M. Syeed (born 1947, Kashmir) is the former President and former national director for the Office for Interfaith and Community Alliances for the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), a national umbrella organization which has more than 300 affiliates across the United States and Canada. Life A naturalized American citizen, Syeed obtained his Ph.D. in Sociolinguistics from Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana, in 1984. Islamic Association Of Greater Detroit
Islamic Association of Greater Detroit (IAGD) was founded in 1978 by immigrants from South Asia and the Middle East. After IAGD was formed, it purchased the current property situated in the city of Avon Township. Eventually, the city name changed to Rochester Hills, Michigan. On this property was a "Blue House" which was used as a meeting place and Sunday Islamic School. As the community grew and during the construction of the original mosque, IAGD rented the Larson Middle School in Troy, Michigan for its Sunday School as well as community dinners. IAGD has had a tradition of holding a community dinner on the first Saturday of each month for the past 30 years. The original mosque included a prayer space, social hall, and kitchen. Imam
Imam (; ar, إمام '; plural: ') is an Islamic leadership position. For Sunni Muslims, Imam is most commonly used as the title of a worship leader of a mosque. In this context, imams may lead Islamic worship services, lead prayers, serve as community leaders, and provide religious guidance. Thus for Sunnis, anyone can study the basic Islamic sciences and become an Imam. For most Shia Muslims, the Imams are absolute infallible leaders of the Islamic community after the Prophet. An ''ijazah'' ( ar, الإِجازَة, "permission", "authorization", "license"; plural: ''ijazahs'' or ''ijazat'') is a license authorizing its holder to transmit a certain text or subject, which is issued by someone already possessing such authority.
