Munawwar Sultana
Munawar Sultana (8 November 1924 – 15 September 2007) was an Indian cinema actress, who acted in Hindi films. She is cited as one of the "popular" actresses of the late 1940s to early 1950s period, along with Noor Jehan, Swarnalata and Ragini. Her specialty was playing a selfless woman, enduring the rough treatment meted by her husband and family, but who eventually "brought her erring husband back home". She came into prominence with Mazhar Khan's ''Pehli Nazar'' (1945), her first film in a leading role. A discovery of actor-producer-director Mazhar Khan, she became inundated with film offers, becoming one of the busiest actresses by 1949, along with other leading ladies such as Suraiya and Nargis. Motilal Rajvansh (4 December 1910 – 17 June 1965) was an Indian actor and the winner of Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for ''Devdas (1955 film), Devdas'' (1955) and ''Parakh (1960 film), Parakh'' (1960). He is credited with being among Hindi cinema's first natural actors. He also directed the film ''Chhoti Chhoti Baten'' (1965), but died before its release. Abdur Rashid Kardar (2 October 1904 – 22 November 1989) was an Indian film actor, director and producer. He is credited with establishing the film industry in the Bhati Gate locality of Lahore, British India (now in Pakistan). Early life and career A.R. Kardar was born into famous Arain Zaildar family of Bhaati Gate in Lahore called the Kardars. Cricket legend and first captain of Pakistan cricket team Abdul Hafeez Kardar. Kardar started as an arts scholar and a calligraphist making posters for foreign film productions and writing for newspapers of the early 1920s. ''filmindia'' is an Indian monthly magazine covering Indian cinema and published in English language. Started by Baburao Patel in 1935, ''filmindia'' was the first English film periodical to be published from Bombay. The magazine was reportedly run "single-handedly" by Patel, who wielded power through this medium to "make or destroy a film". Its most popular column was "The Editor's Mail" answered by Patel. The magazine featured film news, editorials, studio round-ups, gossip, and reviews of different language films, mainly from Hindi and regional cinema and affiliated reviews from Hollywood. His articles included siding with the lesser known cinema workers like the technicians, extras and stuntmen. Patel met the painter S. M. Munawar Sultana ( Punjabi, ) (1925 20 May 1995) was a Pakistani radio and film singer. She is known for vocalizing the first-ever hit Pakistani film songs, including: ''Mainu Rab Di Soun Tere Naal Piyar Ho Gya'' (Film: Pheray 1949), ''Wastae Rab Da Tu Jaanvien Way Kabootra'' (Film: Dulla Bhatti 1956), and ''Ae Quaid-e-Azam, Tera Ehsan Hay, Ehsan'' (Film: Bedari 1957).
