The Multishow Brazilian Music Awards (), or simply known as the Multishow Awards (Brazilian Portuguese: ''Prêmio Multishow''), is an award show presented by the Brazilian channel Multishow to honor the best in Brazilian music. Originally called the TVZ Awards (Brazilian Portuguese: ''Prêmio TVZ''), it is considered one of the biggest music awards in Brazil. The first ceremony was held in 1994. History The first award ceremony was held as TVZ Awards in 1994, with five categories. In 1998, the award changed its name to Multishow Brazilian Music Awards. From 1999, the winners, who were previously chosen by phone, were selected via the internet. Since 2011, the award has had a specialized jury members of the music industry experts who determine the winners in the technical categories. Toni Garrido
Antônio Bento da Silva Filho (born September 7, 1967, in Rio de Janeiro), known as Toni Garrido, is a Brazilian singer, TV presenter and actor. He is the lead singer of the reggae band Cidade Negra. Born in a poor background, Garrido was adopted by the owner of the middle class apartment in Copacabana where his biological mother used to work as a maid. Garrido started playing guitar during church services, and after positive feedback he decided to pursue a musical career. He joined three friends and formed the (now extinct) Banda Bel. But in 1994 he was invited to join Cidade Negra as the lead singer. They became one of the most successful bands in Brazil, merging reggae, soul and pop rock. Canecão
The Canecão was an indoor arena located in Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The venue opened in 1967 and was capable of functioning alternatively either as a dance floor or a concert hall (seating capacity: 2000). Prior to its demolition in 2019, it had been closed since 2010 due to legal quarrels over its ownership. The Academy of the Multishow Brazilian Music Award was created in 2019 as part of a reformulation of the Multishow Brazilian Music Award, with the aim of bringing greater balance between the technical perception of the music market and public opinion. Composed of professionals connected to the music industry, the Academy has played a fundamental role in the nomination and selection of winners in various categories over the years, constantly being improved to reflect the diversity of Brazilian music. Origin and Formation The idea for the Academy arose from the need to balance the criteria for choosing the award, which had previously been largely defined by popular voting.
