MultiChrome
Chrome 20 Series is a series of graphics accelerators by S3 Graphics. It was the successor of the GammaChrome S18 chip. Overview The Chrome 20 series was introduced on March 11, 2005, with the Chrome S25 and Chrome S27 as launch products. The S20 was marketed to the low and mid range of the graphics card market, similar to the PCI Express version of the GammaChrome S18 that preceded it. The Chromotion 3 Video Engine and low power consumption were main selling points. The S20 series marked S3's first products utilizing Fujitsu's 90 nm process. This enabled a significant increase in clock speeds over prior S3 products, and the Chrome 20 series could use 32-256MiB GDDR1 or GDDR3 memory at maximum if 700 MHz, or 64-512MiB GDDR2 memory at a maximum of 500 MHz. S3 Graphics' Chrome series of graphics accelerators arrived in 2004 with the DeltaChrome line of chips. They were supplied as discrete, mobile, or integrated graphics. Overview In 2004 after the S3 Graphics company spun off their joint-venture with VIA, VIA attempted to re-launch the S3 Graphics brand with a new line of video cards under the name 'Chrome'. The Chrome range featured low power requirements and high-definition output making it attractive for small form factor scenarios and OEM systems. Unfortunately by the time Chrome released, the rapid progression of 3D gaming performance between rivals NVIDIA and ATI Technologies made S3's offerings uncompetitive in the lucrative high end consumer market. Scalable Link Interface
Scalable Link Interface (SLI) is the brand name for a now discontinued multi- GPU technology developed by Nvidia (The technology was invented and developed by 3dfx and later purchased by Nvidia during the acquisition of 3dfx) for linking two or more video cards together to produce a single output. SLI is a parallel processing algorithm for computer graphics, meant to increase the available processing power. AMD CrossFire (also known as CrossFireX) is a brand name for the multi- GPU technology by AMD, originally developed by ATI Technologies. The technology allows up to four GPUs to be used in a single computer to improve graphics performance. Associated technology used in mobile computers with external graphics cards, such as in laptops or notebooks, is called AMD Hybrid Graphics. The CrossFire brand name was retired by AMD in September 2017, however the company continues to develop and support the technology for DirectX 11 applications. HyperMemory
HyperMemory was a brand for ATI's method of using the motherboard's main system RAM as part of or all of the video card's video memory on their line of Radeon video cards and motherboard chipsets. It relies on new fast data transfer mechanisms within PCI Express. However, to make up for the inevitably slower system RAM with a video card, a small high-bandwidth local framebuffer is usually added to the video card itself. This can be noted by the one or two small RAM chips on these cards, which usually have a 32-bit or 64-bit bus to the GPU. This small local memory caches the most often needed data for quicker access, somewhat remedying the inherently high-latency connection to system RAM. S3 Graphics Chrome 400 is a series of computer graphics chips from VIA. It is the successor to the S3 Chrome S20 series. History VIA had planned the production of two new graphics chips, Chrome 440 and 430, by the end of 2007. Both supported DirectX 10.1 using a 65 nanometer process. The Chrome 460 was planned to support DirectX 10 and use a 90 nanometer process, but was never released. The Chrome 400 series was codenamed 'Destination'. Both chips were manufactured by Fujitsu. The 430 GT was released on 20 March, 2008 in the US market, while 440 GTX was released on 30 May of the same year.
