Mulligan Highway
The Mulligan Highway is a state highway in Queensland, Australia. It runs for approximately 266 km between Mareeba and Cooktown, on the east coast of Cape York Peninsula where it terminates. It is signed as State Route 81 from Mareeba to and State Route 40 from Lakeland to Cooktown. It is a state-controlled regional road (numbers 34A, 34B and 34C). Named after bushman James Venture Mulligan the sealed highway follows the old Cooktown Developmental Road and was completed in 2006. Since it was sealed, travelling time from Cairns to Cooktown has reduced from 6 to 3½ hours. The Shire of Mareeba is a Local government in Australia, local government area at the base of Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, inland from Cairns, Queensland, Cairns. The shire, administered from the town of Mareeba, Queensland, Mareeba, covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1879 until 2008, when it amalgamated with several councils in the Atherton Tableland area to become the Tablelands Region. Kalkajaka National Park
Kalkajaka National Park, also called Black Mountain National Park, is a protected area in Shire of Cook, Queensland, Australia. Geography The park is 25 km south west of Cooktown. It is managed and protected as a national park under the Nature Conservation Act 1992. The main feature of the park is the mass of granite boulders, some the size of houses. The absence of soil between the boulders and rocks create a maze of gaps and passages, which can be used to penetrate inside the mountain. These rocks can become extremely hot. Peninsula Developmental Road
The Peninsula Developmental Road (PDR) runs from Lakeland to Weipa. It is the main road transport link within Cape York Peninsula and to the rest of the Australian mainland. The segment from Weipa Town to south of the town is within the Rio Tinto mine lease. The within the Rio Tinto mine lease boundary is not part of the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads controlled road. The department excluded this section from its official PDR calculations. The segment from Lakeland to the Rio Tinto boundary is and is under Transport and Main Roads control. The Shire of Cook (The Shire) is a local government area in Far North Queensland, Australia. Burke Developmental Road
The Burke Developmental Road is a Queensland (Australia) developmental road. It links Cloncurry and Normanton in a south–north direction, then turns to the north-east north of Normanton for before turning south-east till Dimbulah, where it becomes the Mareeba Dimbulah Road. The road crosses the Gilbert River. This bridge was named after two of the region's indigenous leaders, Lily and Jubilee Slattery. A major unsealed section begins about north of Normanton and continues until Chillagoe. As of 2014, some sections totaling about are unsealed between Chillagoe and Dimbulah.
