Mule Hill
Mule Hill is a historical site in San Pasqual Valley, San Diego, California. Mule Hill site is a California Historical Landmark No. 452, listed on November 2, 1949. The Mule Hill, a low hill, was the site of a battle during the Mexican–American War on December 7, 1846. The Mule Hill battle took place the day after the Battle of San Pasqual. The battle of San Pasqual took place five miles east of Mule Hill. The Mexican Californios attacked General Stephen Kearny's troops on Mule Hill. Kearny and his troops were on the way to San Diego when they were again attacked. The Kearny troops counterattacked, took, and held the hill until December 11. Kearny and his troops ran short of food and were forced to eat mule meat, the hill's namesake. Captain Turner was the one who ordered Lieutenant William H. San Pasqual Valley, San Diego
San Pasqual Valley, historically spelled as San Pascual ( Spanish for " Saint Paschal"), is the northernmost community of San Diego, California, United States. It is named for the Kumeyaay village of San Pasqual that was once located there. It is bordered on the north by the city of Escondido, on the east and west by unincorporated land within San Diego County, and on the south by the city of Poway and the community of Rancho Bernardo. The Battle of San Pasqual, also spelled San Pascual, was a military encounter that occurred during the Mexican–American War in what is now the San Pasqual Valley, San Diego, California, San Pasqual Valley community in the county of San Diego, California. Casa De Cota
Casa de Cota site in San Diego, California, is a California Historical Landmark No. 75, listed on December 6, 1932. The Casa de Cota House was built by Juan Cota or Ramon Cota at what is now Twiggs Street and Congress Street. The adobe house was removed by the United States Army to make room for an Army training camp used in World War II. The training camp was temporary and the site is now a parking lot. Casa De Carrillo House
María Ygnacia López de Carrillo lived in the Carrillo House from 1821 to 1836. Casa de Carrillo House in San Diego, California, in San Diego County, is the oldest residence in San Diego. The Casa de Carrillo House was built in 1821 by Presidio of San Diego Comandante Francisco María Ruiz (1754–1839) next to the pear orchard he had planted in 1808. The adobe house was later occupied by his close relative Joaquín Carrillo and Joaquín's large family. Joaquín's daughter Josefa Carrillo scandalously eloped from the home and sailed to Chile with Henry Delano Fitch in April 1829; they were later reconciled with her father. Kit Carson Park
Kit Carson Park is a municipal park in Escondido, California, United States. The park was named after Christopher (Kit) Carson, the famous scout who guided Captain John C. Frémont over the Sierra Nevada during a government exploration expedition. The park sits in a valley that is approximately west of where Kit Carson fought in the Battle of San Pasqual. Leonardo Cota
Leonardo Cota (1816–1887) was a Captain with the Californios in the Mexican–American War; and later a Los Angeles County Supervisor. Leonardo Cota (1816–1887) was born during the Mexican War of Independence in Mexico, the son of Guillermo Cota. Leonardo Cota married Maria Rosa Yorba, daughter of ''Californio'' Rancho Cañón de Santa Ana owner Bernardo Yorba. At the time of the Placerita Canyon gold discovery of 1842, Cota was a clerk-registrar at Pueblo de Los Angeles, under the services of his cousin, Governor Pio Pico, who would be known as the last governor of Alta California under Mexican rule.
