Muhammed Abu Maatouk

	Muhammed Abu Maatouk Muhammed Abu Maatouk (; born 1950) is a Syrian playwright, screenwriter and novelist. He was born in Aleppo, and studied Arabic at Aleppo University. He has written numerous plays, novels, short stories and screenplays. His first novel ''The Tree of Speech'' was published in 1990, while ''The Bottle and the Genie'' (2008) was longlisted for the Arabic Booker Prize in 2009. 	Arabic Booker Prize The International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF) ( ar, الجائزة العالمية للرواية العربية) is the most prestigious and important literary prize in the Arab world. Its aim is to reward excellence in contemporary Arabic creative writing and to encourage the readership of high quality Arabic literature internationally through the translation and publication of winning and shortlisted novels in other major languages.
