Muhammad Khasru
Muhammad Khasru (1946 – 19 February 2019) was a Bangladeshi journalist and activist who pioneered the film society movement in the country. He played an important role in establishing the Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh in 1973 and Bangladesh Film Archive in 1978. Early life Khasru was born in 1946 at Hooghly district of West Bengal, India. His father worked at the Hooghly Jute Mill. But after the communal riots broke out in India, his family migrated to Dhaka in the 1950s. They settled in their ancestral home at Mohonpur village in Keraniganj Upazila of Dhaka district. Hooghly District
Hooghly district () is one of the districts of the Indian state of West Bengal. It can alternatively be spelt ''Hoogli'' or ''Hugli''. The district is named after the Hooghly River. The headquarters of the district are at Hooghly-Chinsurah (''Chunchura''). There are four subdivisions: Chinsurah Sadar, Srirampore, Chandannagore, and Arambagh. Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh (FFSB) is the umbrella organization of film societies in Bangladesh. It began on October 24 in 1973 as a federation for all film societies in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Film Archive is an independent institution that is the national film archive of Bangladesh and preserves films, commercials and other visual medias produced in Bangladesh. Keraniganj Upazila
Keraniganj () is an upazila of Dhaka District in the division of Dhaka, Bangladesh. History It is believed that during the reign of Nawab Shaista Khan the ''paik-peyada'' and clerical staff (''kerani'') of the Nawab used to live on the other side of the river Buriganga. Keraniganj is named after this. Historically, it is believed that, after the regime change in 1757, Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah's wife and one of his aunts were in prison at Zinzira in Keraniganj. Dhaka University Film Society (in short DUFS) is a voluntary organization affiliated with the Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) at University of Dhaka. It is registered under the Film Societies Act 2011 and a member of Federation of Film Societies, Bangladesh (FFSB). DUFS is also registered with the Bangladesh Film Censor Board.
