Muggia Cathedral
The Church of Saints John and Paul (, ) is the main place of Catholic worship in Muggia, in the province of Province of Trieste, Trieste, seat of the homonymous parish belonging to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Trieste, diocese of Trieste. History The church, dedicated to Saints John the Apostle, John and Paul the Apostle, Paul, was built on the remains of a previous sacred building with three apses and was consecrated by the Bishop of Trieste Arlongo dei Visgoni on 29 December 1263. The Romanesque architecture, Romanesque building was augmented, in the middle of the 15th century, by the cladding of the facade in white stone slabs, an example of Gothic architecture, Gothic-Republic of Venice, Venetian style. The church underwent a total remodeling between 1444 and 1467. In 1865 the facade, lying off-axis, was rebuilt from the rose window upwards and lowered by half a metre. Muggia
Muggia (; ; ) is an Italian (municipality) in the Province of Trieste, regional decentralization entity of Trieste, in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia on the border with Slovenia. It has 12,703 inhabitants. Lying on the eastern flank of the Gulf of Trieste in the northern Adriatic Sea, Muggia is the only Italian port town in Istria. The town's architecture is marked by its Venetian and Austrian history, and its harbour hosts a modern 500-berth marina for yachts (Porto San Rocco). Muggia lies in northern Istria. Its territory, limited on the sea-side by a shoreline of more than featuring a coastal road and on the border side by a hill system, Monti di Muggia, including Mt. Castellier, Mt. S. Michele, Mt.
