Carolyn Mugar
Carolyn Mugar (born c. 1943) is an American activist of Armenian descent, best known for founding the Armenia Tree Project and for serving as the executive director of Farm Aid. She is a prominent member of the Mugar family of Greater Boston. Biography Mugar is the daughter of Stephen P. Mugar (1901–1982), founder of Star Market and a prominent Boston-area philanthropist. Her brother, businessman David G. Mugar (1939–2022), owned a Boston-area television station and was closely associated with Boston's annual Fourth of July celebration. Mugar's husband, businessman and activist John T. O’Connor, died in November 2001 of a heart attack, aged 46. Mugar founded the Armenia Tree Project with her husband in 1994 as a result of the environmental problems caused by the then-recent earthquake and the blockade of Armenia by Azerbaijan and Turkey. Mugar Memorial Library
The Mugar Memorial Library is the primary library for study, teaching, and research in the humanities and social sciences for Boston University. It was opened in 1966. Stephen P. Mugar, an Armenian immigrant who was successful in the grocery business, provided the naming gift to commemorate his parents. Mugar's entrance carries an inscription from Stephen honoring his parents. In coming to America from Armenia my parents opened the door of Freedom to me. America's public schools & libraries opened my eyes to the unlimited opportunity in this great land, as well as the privileges and obligations of citizenship. Mugar Omni Theater
The Mugar Omni Theater is a domed IMAX theater at the Museum of Science, in Boston, Massachusetts. Description The Mugar Omni is named after Stephen P. Mugar, the founder of Star Market, and his wife Marian G. Mugar. The Mugar Omni is non-profit and opened in 1987. Over 900,000 visitors came in its first year. It is the only domed IMAX theater in New England and is one of only 60 IMAX Theaters in the world to offer 180 degree domed viewing. The seats are set at a steep (cliff-side) angle and recline about thirty degrees, the screen is five stories tall, and the theater is filled with an impressive surround sound system. Because the screen fills a viewer's field of vision (including periphery vision) the screen and surround sound system give viewers the feeling of immersion and motion giving visitors a unique life like experience when viewing films. Mugar River
The Mugar River (or Mujer) is a north-flowing tributary of the Abay River in central Ethiopia, which is notable for its deep gorge. Tributaries of the Muger include the Labbu. The Muger has a drainage area of about 8,188 square kilometers. It was bounded by the historical Endagabatan province. The Mugar is important as a landmark because it marked the eastern boundary of the kingdom of Damot (before the Great Oromo migration forced that people across the Abay) and the western one of the district of Selale. Somewhere in the Guder-Mugar valleys, the first recorded dinosaur fossil in the Horn of Africa was discovered in 1976. It was a single tooth of a carnosaur. The region around Mugar was the traditional territory of the now extinct Gafat people however they would be expelled by Amhara emperors in the following centuries and later assimilated by the Oromo people. Durba
Dubra (Oromo: "virgin") is a town in central Ethiopia. Located in the Oromia Special Zone Surrounding Finfinne, about 70 km north of Addis Ababa, this town has a latitude and longitude of with an elevation of 2450 meters above sea level. The town sits above the canyon of the Muger River, near the largest falls of the Muger. Dubra is important for being one of the major sites for the production of cement in Ethiopia. In 2006, the Muger Cement Factory plant announced it would expand its facilities. In 2008, Mohammed Al-Amoudi's Derba Midroc Cement company announced it would establish its own cement factory 8 km from Durba.
