Mudhoney (album)
''Mudhoney'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Mudhoney, released in 1989. It was their first LP after several singles and two EPs (''Superfuzz Bigmuff'' and '' Boiled Beef & Rotting Teeth''). The instrumental song "Magnolia Caboose Babyshit" is a cover of "Magnolia Caboose Babyfinger" by Blue Cheer, but the song is still credited to Mudhoney. The album, when bought as a new vinyl record, is also packaged with a poster of the band (Photo by Michael Lavine). The poster features the band in a blue filter and says "Mudhoney. The album is out." as well as the SubPop and Au Go Go logos. Critical reception In 2009, BBC Music noted that "the manic, macabre garage-rock contortions of their debut album remain a scuzzed-up, sleazy and subterranean treasure." The Great Rock Discography
Martin Charles Strong (born 1960 in Musselburgh) is a Scottish music historian known for compiling discographies of popular music including ''The Great Rock Discography''. Strong has been described in broadsheet newspaper profiles as a "compiler of acclaimed mammoth discographies" and "a man who knows more about rock music than is healthy for one individual". Career Strong has researched music extensively since the early 1980s, dedicating 70 hours per week to his craft as of 2004. He is perhaps best known for ''The Great Rock Discography'', with the 7th edition being published in 2004; the foreword was penned by disc jockey John Peel. Steve Turner (guitarist)
Steven Neil Turner (born March 28, 1965) is an American guitarist known for his work with Green River and Mudhoney. Early life Turner was born in 1965 in Houston, Texas, but moved with his family to Seattle when he was two. Career His first band was called The Ducky Boys. The lineup included future Pearl Jam member Stone Gossard. The Ducky Boys split around 1983. Turner later joined Mark Arm in Mr. Epp and the Calculations, which Arm described as "The worst band in the world". Mr. Epp played their final show with Turner in 1984. Turner was also the first guitarist in Green River which again featured Arm and Gossard, and also acquired the services of Jeff Ament (later Pearl Jam) on bass guitar. Strong, Martin C. Mark Arm
Mark Arm (born Mark Thomas McLaughlin; February 21, 1962) is an American singer and songwriter, best known as the vocalist for the grunge band Mudhoney. His former group, Green River, was one of the first grunge bands, along with Malfunkshun, Soundgarden, Skin Yard, the U-Men, and others. He is also the manager of the Sub Pop warehouse and previously worked at Fantagraphics Books. Early life Arm was born February 21, 1962, at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, and was raised in Kirkland, Washington. . As a child, he was a member of Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Bellevue Christian High School in Bellevue, Washington. In 1985, Arm earned an English degree with an emphasis in creative writing from the University of Washington. Pete Kember
Peter Kember (born 19 November 1965), also known by his stage name Sonic Boom, is an English singer-songwriter, composer and record producer. He was a founding member, vocalist, guitarist and keyboardist of neo-psychedelic band Spacemen 3, lasting from 1982 until the band's dissolution in 1991. He is now based in Sintra, Portugal. Kember has also led the musical projects Spectrum and E.A.R. (Experimental Audio Research), sometimes as the only member. He has played and collaborated with a number of artists, including Stereolab, Panda Bear, Yo La Tengo, and Sinner DC. ''Playing with Fire'' is the third studio album by Spacemen 3, released in February 1989. The original CD version included two live bonus tracks recorded in the Netherlands, and an ensuing release on Taang! Records included two more b-sides from the "Revolution" single. A reissued version from 2001 has an entire extra disc of demos and rarities. In a similar musical borrowing to those on the band's prior albums, the song "Revolution" bears more than a passing resemblance to "Black to Comm" by the MC5. Reception ''Playing with Fire'' was featured in Robert Dimery's ''1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die''. Vintage Books is a trade paperback publishing imprint of Penguin Random House originally established by Alfred A. Knopf in 1954. The ''Spin Alternative Record Guide'' is a music reference book compiled by the American music magazine ''Spin (magazine), Spin'' and published in 1995 by Vintage Books. It was editing, edited by the rock music, rock critic Eric Weisbard and Craig Marks, who was the magazine's editor-in-chief at the time.
