Muda River
The Muda River () is the longest river in Kedah, Malaysia. Course Sourced in Ulu Muda Forest in Sik region in northeastern Kedah, along the border with Thailand, the river meets the water needs of the states of Kedah and Penang. The river flows through much of Sik region, then entering the Baling region where it meets with the Ketil river, a left-bank tributary, at Kuala Ketil. It then flows westward, passing through the southern suburbs of Kedah's second largest city Sungai Petani, and forming the natural boundary between Kuala Muda District and North Seberang Perai District on the Penangite side. The Muda river then empties into the Straits of Malacca at Kota Kuala Muda (''Kuala Muda'' meaning lower Muda, or the ''estuary'' of the Muda river in Malay). Ulu Muda Forest
The Greater Ulu Muda Forest Complex (GUMFC) is a large expanse of lowland dipterocarp forest in Baling and Sik Districts, Kedah, Malaysia, on the border with Thailand. The area has high biodiversity thanks to relatively low rates of poaching and human intrusion. A number of endangered species are known to be present in the GUMFC. The forest is in the Peninsular Malaysian rain forests ecoregion. The water that it provides through the man-made Muda, Pedu and Ahning lakes provide water to the Muda agricultural area as well as much of Kedah, Penang and Perlis. Baling District
The Baling District is an administrative district in southeastern Kedah, Malaysia. Located about 110 km from Alor Setar, it borders Perak and Betong, the southernmost town of Thailand. Name The name Baling can be traced to a series of events detailed in the story of Raja Bersiong (The Fanged King), a popular legend of Kedah, recorded in the Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa. Raja Bersiong was a ruthless vampire-like king with a taste for human blood who preyed on his subjects. His subjects finally rose against him and burned down the palace. When the fanged king fled his palace at the Old Kedah capital in Lembah Bujang, he fled to a place named Merbau and began removing his fangs by twisting them by hand. As a result of the twisting act, Merbau was renamed as Merbau Pulas where ''pulas'' in Malay means twisting. Padang Serai
Padang Serai (literal meaning: lemongrass field) is a little town in Kulim District, Kedah, Malaysia. The sleepy hollow, surrounded by oil palm plantations and the nearby Kulim High-tech Industrial Zone has 56 percent Malay, 23 percent Indians and 12 percent Chinese voters. The Kuala Muda District is a district in Kedah, Malaysia. Sungai Petani is the administrative center of the district. Kuala Muda district is in close proximity to the border of Kedah and Penang. Sik District
Sik is a district in Kedah, Malaysia. It is largest district in Kedah. Etymology The name of the district was derived from the Arab word "Syed" or "Sheikh" (pronounced as such in Pattani Malay as "Sik" and "Saik"), after the Arab missionaries who spread Islam into the region. History Arab preachers arrived by boat at Lubuk Tok Keramat, Sungai Chepir and set up camp at a field known as Padang Tok Sheikh.
