Mubarak Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan
Mubarak bin Mohammed Al Nahyan (1935–2010) was an Emirati royal and the first interior minister of the United Arab Emirates. He also held other public posts which were mostly security-related. Early life Al Nahyan was born in 1935. He was the second son of Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan and grandson of Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Mubarak's elder brother was Hamdan. He also had younger brothers, Tahnoun and Saif. Career Mubarak was close to the rulers of Abu Dhabi. During the reign of Shakhbut bin Sultan, he was named as the director of the police and the public security department in 1961. He replaced Sultan bin Shakbut Al Nahyan as the director of the Abu Dhabi Police. In May 1964 Sheikh Shakhbut removed Bill Edge, a British citizen, from office who had been serving as the commander (it was labelled as ''commandant'') and chairman of the Abu Dhabi Police since 1961 and appointed Mubarak Al Nahyan to this post. The House of Nahyan () is the ruling royal family of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and one of the Royal families of the United Arab Emirates, six ruling families of the United Arab Emirates. The family is a branch of the House of Al Falahi (Āl Bū Falāḥ), a branch of the Bani Yas tribe, and are related to the House of Al Falasi from which the ruling family of Dubai, the House of Maktoum, Al Maktoum, descends. The Bani Yas came to Abu Dhabi in the 18th century from Liwa Oasis. They have ruled Abu Dhabi since 1793, and previously ruled Liwa. Five of the rulers were overthrown and eight were killed in coups between 1793 and 1966; many were brothers. The Order of King Abdulaziz (Arabic: وسام الملك عبد العزيز Wisām al-malik ‘Abd al-‘Azīz) is a Saudi Arabian order of merit. The order was named after Abdulaziz Al Saud, founder of the modern Saudi state. History In 1971, the introduction of orders was announced in a decree. It was instituted by King Faisal on 20 March 1971. However, the order had been awarded before that date unsystematically. These earliest versions were produced by Bichay in Cairo, Egypt. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan (; born 1951) is an Emirati royal and politician, who currently serves as the minister of tolerance of the United Arab Emirates. Al Nahyan previously served as the minister of culture and the minister of higher education. The Arabian Gulf Digital Archive (AGDA) is the bilingual, free and open-access online national archive of the United Arab Emirates which was launched in 2019. It offers digitized documents about the events concerning the Gulf countries from the 1820s. History and coverage The AGDA was created in 2019 as a result of the combination of the archives of the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. The related agreement was signed by the parties in 2017. It is part of the National Archives of the United Arab Emirates and contains videos, photographs and documents in Arabic and English.
