Muanda Nsemi
Zacharie Badiengila, known as Ne Muanda Nsemi, (1946 – 18 October 2023) was a Congolese religious leader and politician. He was leader of the political and religious movement Bundu dia Kongo (BDK). Biography Born in Luozi Territory in 1946, Badiengila took on the name Ne Muanda Nsemi, which means "the creative spirit" in Kongo language, Kikongo. He resided in Kinshasa and was a chemist by occupation. He considered himself a spiritual heir of Simon Kimbangu, a preacher and prophet of Kimbanguism. He also defined himself as a political heir of Joseph Kasa-Vubu, who served as President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, President and supported the resurrection of the Kingdom of Kongo. Like his mentors, he came from the former Kongo Central, Bas-Congo. Nsemi founded the BDK in 1969, but officially created the organization in 1986 to expand into politics, as it was originally a cultural association. The National Assembly is the lower house and main legislative political body of the Parliament of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is one of the two legislative bodies along with the Senate. 2017 Makala Prison Jailbreak
On 17 May 2017, a mass jailbreak at Makala Central Prison in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, resulted in the deaths of up to 100 people. Background Makala Central Prison is the biggest prison in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It only has a capacity of 1,500, and holds both male and female prisoners. The inside is unguarded. Since its 1957 Belgian Congo creation, jailbreaks are common in the DRC. Jailbreak It was believed that around half of the prison's inmates fled during the attack. In the initial attack, around 50 prisoners got away when armed men attacked the prison. Makala Central Prison
Makala Central Prison (), or Makala Prison (, ), is the biggest prison in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), located in its capital city, Kinshasa. It is located in the city center, from the presidential palace. Makala Prison is located between the communes of Makala and Selembao. With a theoretical capacity of 1,500 detainees, Makala is the only detention centre in Kinshasa, with the exception of Ndolo military prison. The security of each of the eleven pavilions where prisoners are housed is ensured by the inmates. There are no police officers or prison guards inside the site. Instead, prisoners armed with batons guard the entrances and exits of each pavilion. Capacity Makala Prison has capacity for 1,500 prisoners, and holds both male and female prisoners.
