Mu Pan
Mu Pan (born 1976) is a Chinese American artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York City. He is known for his large epic paintings. Early life Mu Pan was born in Taichung City, Taiwan, in 1976. He grew up in Taiwan, and emigrated to the USA with his parents in 1997. He studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where he obtained a BFA degree in illustration in 2001 and an MFA in Illustration as Visual Essay in 2007. Work As a teenager, he picked his role models from wuxia novels, such as The Condors Heroes by Jin Kong, or The Journey to the West, as well as from Hong Kong cinema of the 1980s and 1990s and from Japanese manga and kaiju movies. Pan is known for precisely drawn animal and half-human creatures, whose portrayals — usually caught in actions somewhere between human and bestial, and accompanied by the logos and uniforms of 20th-century culture — suggest a cynical misanthropy. Matadero Madrid
Matadero Madrid is the site of a former slaughterhouse, the El Matadero y Mercado Municipal de Ganados (English: Municipal Slaughterhouse and Cattle Market) in the Arganzuela district of Madrid. Today, it is a contemporary arts centre. History Slaughterhouse Architect was commissioned by the City Council of Madrid to design the complex. The slaughterhouse (in Spanish: matadero) and cattle market were built from 1911 and 1925. The project was structured around a complex of pavilions characterized by functionality, constructive rationality, and conceptual simplicity. There is, however, a historicist element to the architecture, which incorporates Neo-Mudéjar features, such as tiles with abstract designs. Ari Aster
Ari Aster (born July 15, 1986) is an American filmmaker. After garnering initial recognition for the short film '' The Strange Thing About the Johnsons'' (2011), he became best known for writing and directing the feature films '' Hereditary'' (2018) and '' Midsommar'' (2019), both released by A24, making a name as a filmmaker of elevated horror. ''Midsommar'' is a 2019 folk horror film written and directed by Ari Aster. It stars Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor as an American couple who are drawn into a violent cult in rural Sweden. Kawanabe Kyōsai
was a Japanese painter and caricaturist. In the words of art historian Timothy Clark, "an individualist and an independent, perhaps the last virtuoso in traditional Japanese painting". Biography Living through the Edo period to the Meiji period, Kyōsai witnessed Japan transform itself from a feudal country into a modern state. Born at Koga, he was the son of a samurai. His first shock was at the age of nine when he picked up a human head separated from a corpse in the Kanda river.
