mssv (''Main Steam Stop Valve'') is an American band featuring Mike Baggetta, Mike Watt and Stephen Hodges. History Baggetta and Watt recorded ''Wall of Flowers'' with drummer Jim Keltner but after releasing it Keltner was averse to travel so Stephen Hodges was brought in to tour the album; Hodges had previously worked with Watt on the latter's second solo album, ''Contemplating The Engine Room''. The resulting trio named themselves mssv and recorded a live album entitled ''Live Flowers''. The album, recorded live at Johnny Brenda's in Philadelphia on March 28, 2019 consists largely of songs from ''Wall of Flowers'' with "Pink Room" from '' Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me'', "No One Says Old Man (To The Old Man)" and "Liberty Calls!" from Watt's ''Contemplating the Engine Room'' and a cover of " Fun House" by The Stooges. Mike Baggetta
Mike Baggetta (born 1979) is an American guitarist and songwriter. Early life Baggetta was raised in Agawam, Massachusetts. He took up guitar at an early age and was inspired to explore Charles Mingus by Jeff Beck's cover of " Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" on his album '' Wired''. This led to albums by Miles Davis and John Coltrane which expanded Baggetta's sense of musical adventure. Baggetta attended Rutgers University where he received his Bachelor of Music degree and Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies. After graduation, he moved to New York City and embarked on a music career. After fifteen years in NYC, Baggetta relocated to Knoxville, Tennessee. Career Baggetta was a finalist in the Fish Middleton Jazz Scholarship competition at the East Coast Jazz Festival and was one of seven international guitarists to compete in the Gibson Jazz Guitar Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Michael David Watt (born December 20, 1957) is an American bassist, vocalist and songwriter. Watt co-founded and played bass guitar for the rock bands Minutemen (1980–1985), Dos (1985–present), and Firehose (1986–1994). He began a solo career with the 1994 album ''Ball-Hog or Tugboat?'', he has since released three additional solo albums, most recently in 2010 with ''Hyphenated-man''. He is also the frontman for the supergroup Big Walnuts Yonder (2008–present), a member of the art rock group Banyan (1997–present) and is involved with several other musical projects. Wall Of Flowers
''Wall of Flowers'' is an album by Mike Baggetta featuring Mike Watt and Jim Keltner. The album has been described as "post-genre-improv-jazz-rock". The album was largely improvised even though the trio of musicians had never played with each other before recording in 2017. A conversation with Chris Schlarb of Big Ego Studios led to a discussion about the David Torn album ''Cloud About Mercury'' which Baggetta admired. Baggetta learned that the artists on the album had not worked together previously and were simply " cold-called" by Torn so he jokingly suggested Schlarb call Watt and Keltner to join him for an album. Schlarb made some calls and soon Baggetta was joined by Watt and Keltner to record his ''Wall of Flowers''. Following the release of the album, Baggetta and Watt embarked on a ten-date March tour with Stephen Hodges substituting for Keltner. The Stooges, originally billed as the Psychedelic Stooges, also known as Iggy and the Stooges, was an American rock band formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1967 by singer Iggy Pop, guitarist Ron Asheton, drummer Scott Asheton, and bassist Dave Alexander.
