''EastEnders'' is a BBC soap opera that first aired on 19 February 1985. The following is a list of characters that first appeared in 2017, by order of first appearance. All characters are introduced by the show's executive producer Sean O'Connor or, from 27 November, his successor as executive consultant, John Yorke. The first character to be introduced was Keegan Baker ( Zack Morris), a friend of Shakil Kazemi ( Shaheen Jafargholi), followed by Emerald Fox (Doña Croll), the mother of Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Kim Fox-Hubbard (Tameka Empson). Eddie Eyre
Eddie Eyre (born Edward Wilson, 24 July 1988) is a British actor who is known for his role as Josh Hemmings in the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders''. Education Eyre was educated at Abingdon School from 1999 to 2006. He was trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Career Eyre's stage career began at The Old Vic, where he took part in the ''24 Hour Plays'', an event hosted by Kevin Spacey that has included actors such as Lily Cole, Catherine Tate, Douglas Booth and Kaya Scodelario. Linda Henry
Linda Valiris (''née'' Henry; born 24 August 1959) is an English actress. She is known for her roles as Yvonne Atkins in the ITV prison drama series '' Bad Girls'' and Shirley Carter in the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders''. She had previously appeared in ''EastEnders'' as the original Lorraine Salter, the mother of Mandy Salter (Nicola Stapleton), from 1991 to 1992. Her other acting credits include ''Cracker'' (1995), ''Prime Suspect'' (1997) and ''Trial & Retribution'' (1998). Shirley Carter
Shirley Carter is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders'', played by Linda Henry. She first appeared on 7 December 2006, during episodes set in Dorset. This is Henry's second role in ''''EastEnders'''', as she previously played prostitute Lorraine Salter (1991–1992). Shirley was presented upon her arrival as the mother of established characters Deano ( Matt Di Angelo) and Carly Wicks ( Kellie Shirley).
