Mreža (computer Magazine)
Mreža ("net" in Croatian) was the first private Croatian television network. It was founded in 1997. From its Zagreb studios, it produced original programs that were later aired on various local and regional stations. The arrival of Mreža was quite a notable event in Croatian media history, because it was the first time the media monopoly of state-owned Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) was significantly challenged. Mreža produced original programs in the form of its own news, as well as lavishly produced shows. Mreža also poached some important talent from HRT, including Denis Latin and his popular '' Latinica'' talk show. One of the owners of Mreža was the controversial tycoon Miroslav Kutle, and his activities caused the network to fail. Zagreb
Zagreb ( ) is the capital (political), capital and List of cities and towns in Croatia#List of cities and towns, largest city of Croatia. ''Hrvatska radiotelevizija'' ( HRT), or Croatian Radiotelevision, is a Croatian public broadcasting company. It operates several radio and television channels, over a domestic transmitter network as well as satellite. HRT is divided into three joint companies – Croatian Radio (), Croatian Television () and Music Production (), which includes three orchestras (Symphony, Jazz, and Tamburitza) and a choir. Denis Latin
Denis Latin (born 14 February 1966 in Šibenik) is a Croatian television host. He began to work on HRT in 1987 and two years later, in 1989, he graduated from Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb. In 1990 he became the announcer of ''Dnevnik'', the daily news program on HRT, and with the age of 24 was the youngest person ever to announce this program. Latinica (TV Show)
''Latinica'' is a Croatian television talk show launched on November 11, 1993, which was broadcast on Mondays at 20:10 CET on HRT 1. Hosted by Denis Latin, it discussed current events with guest experts and also contained five outside reports showing the actual cases connected with current discussion. Its title, besides being derived from the host Latin's surname, literally means "Latin alphabet" in Croatian. ''Latinica'' was the longest-running weekly talk show in Croatian television, with more than 350 broadcasts. The show was canceled on January 13, 2011, and the final show was broadcast on January 17, 2011. Miroslav Kutle
Miroslav Kutle (born October 6, 1957) is a Bosnian Croat entrepreneur. He became notorious for his involvement in the Croatian privatization controversy and has since been sentenced to jail time for embezzlement on two occasions. Education Kutle was born in Lištica, (today Široki Brijeg) in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He attended school and the University of Zagreb, where he graduated at the Faculty of Law in 1982. Business empire In 1989 he founded UTP Globus, and in 1992 Globus Holdings, later to become Globus Group d.o.o. (Globus Grupa). TV Marjan
TV Marjan is now defunct Croatian commercial TV station from Split, which had the distinction of being the first private television station in former Yugoslavia. The station, named after Marjan hill overlooking city of Split, began its existence in 1984 thanks to Gordan Franić-Futa, local television enthusiast. Equipped with satellite antenna he began to re-broadcast foreign television programmes, most notably Super Channel and MTV. The programme was occasionally interrupted with public service announcements in order to win favour of local authorities. The authorities in Zagreb were, however, less friendly and the station was often shut down by government inspectors. TV Marjan, however, began to make original programmes and air it during holidays.
