Kon Kan is a Canadian synthpop project conceived and formed in 1988 by Barry Harris in Toronto, Ontario. Kon Kan were awarded a 1990 Juno for the song "I Beg Your Pardon" and nominated for a 1991 Juno Award for the single " Puss N' Boots/These Boots Are Made for Walkin'". History Band name Musician Barry Harris said the name "Kon Kan" is a play on the term " Can Con", the Canadian radio regulation that states radio stations must play Canadian artists at least 30% of the time. Harris named the group "Kon Kan" as a subtle advertisement to Canadian stations that he was Canadian. However, he said the move didn't work, and he wasn't noticed by the stations until Atlantic Records signed them. ''Move to Move'' is the debut album by Kon Kan, released in 1989 on Atlantic Records. It spawned the singles "I Beg Your Pardon", "Harry Houdini", " Puss N' Boots" and " Move to Move". The album reached number 69 in Canada. "I Beg Your Pardon" was a top 20 hit in at least six countries, going top 5 in the UK and the Netherlands. Group member Barry Harris produced the album, and wrote or co-wrote all but one cut. Kevin Wynne is lead vocalist on most songs, while Harris sang the title track and the ballad, "Am I in Love". Jon Lind, who co-penned the Madonna song " Crazy for You", and Bob Mitchell (" The Flame"), co-wrote material with Harris for the project. Synth-pop (short for synthesizer pop; also called techno-pop; ) is a subgenre of new wave music that first became prominent in the late 1970s and features the synthesizer as the dominant musical instrument. Atlantic Recording Corporation (simply known as Atlantic Records) is an American record label founded in October 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson. Barry Harris is a Canadian record producer, DJ, remixer, singer and songwriter. He created the synthpop act Kon Kan in early 1988 which had worldwide success with "I Beg Your Pardon". The song, initially issued on the now defunct Toronto-based indie label Revolving Records, was quickly discovered and signed by Atlantic Records' A&R rep, Marc Nathan. Biography Between 1997 and 2003, his production team Thunderpuss, co-created with Chris Cox produced worldwide hit remixes for Madonna, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige, Céline Dion, Cher, Janet Jackson, Spice Girls, LeAnn Rimes, among others. The duo topped the ''Billboard'' Hot Dance/Club Play chart more than 20 times. Jonathan Gus Lind (April 14, 1948 – January 15, 2022), professionally known as Jon Lind, was an American songwriter, performer and A&R Executive Biography Lind was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 14, 1948, and raised in New York City. He studied classical guitar at the Mannes College of Music. His first break was in the 1970s where he worked with Bob Cavallo. At this period he met producer Maurice White who recorded his songs with Ramsey Lewis and Earth, Wind and Fire. He was also a member of the band Howdy Moon and The Fifth Avenue Band. He wrote songs for soulful artists such as Madonna, Cher, The Emotions, Jennifer Holliday, D.J. Rogers, Atlantic Starr and Ramsey Lewis. In 1984, Lind signed with Warner Brothers. He was a Senior Vice President of A&R at Hollywood Records. Lind died from cancer on January 15, 2022, at the age of 73.
