Kon Kan is a Canadian synth-pop project conceived and formed in 1988 by Barry Harris (Canadian musician), Barry Harris in Toronto, Ontario. Kon Kan were awarded a Juno Awards of 1990, 1990 Juno for the song "I Beg Your Pardon" and nominated for a Juno Awards of 1991, 1991 Juno Award for the single "Puss N' Boots/These Boots Are Made for Walkin'". History Band name Musician Barry Harris said the name "Kon Kan" is a play on the term "Canadian Content, Can Con", the Canadian radio regulation that states radio stations must play Canadian artists at least 30% of the time. Harris named the group "Kon Kan" as a subtle advertisement to Canadian stations that he was Canadian. "Call Me" is a song by Italian singer Spagna, released in 1987 as the second single from her debut studio album, '' Dedicated to the Moon'' (1987). Unlike its predecessor, " Easy Lady", "Call Me" was also released in North America and Japan. A "U.S. remix" was done by Steve Thompson and Mike Barbiero. The single's B-side, "Girl, It's Not the End of the World", also appears on Spagna's debut album. The song became a worldwide hit, reaching number one in Spain and becoming a top-10 hit in 14 other countries. Ivana Spagna (; born 16 December 1954), also known simply as Spagna, is an Italian singer and songwriter. She is best known for her worldwide hit song " Call Me", released in 1987. Career Spagna started her singing career in the early 1970s when she released the first Italian version of " Mamy Blue" in 1971 under her name Ivana Spagna, then the following year, she released the single "Ari Ari". In the early 1980s, she provided vocals (with Angela Parisi) and wrote songs for the Italo disco duo Fun Fun; as well as writing songs and singing for many other dance music projects like Baby's Gang until 1986, when she embarked on a solo career. Tones on Tail were a British post-punk band formed in 1982, originally as a musical side project of Daniel Ash of the gothic rock group Bauhaus (band), Bauhaus. Their music was described by one critic as "doom-and-dance-pop." History While still a member of Bauhaus, Ash formed Tones on Tail early in 1982, originally as a duo with Glenn Campling, an art school friend and flatmate who had also been a road crew, roadie for Bauhaus. GQ was an American musical group formed in The Bronx, New York, primarily noted for its success in funk, R&B, soul music and disco. The core membership of the group commenced playing professionally, under different group names, as of 1968. Silver Convention were a German Euro disco recording act of the 1970s. The group was originally named Silver Bird Convention or Silver Bird. History The group was initiated in Munich, then West Germany, by producers and songwriters Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay. The group was named after Levay's nickname: "Silver". "Rose Garden" (sometimes titled "(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden") is a song written in 1967 by American singer-songwriter Joe South. It was first recorded by Billy Joe Royal on his 1967 studio album ''Billy Joe Royal Featuring Hush''. Versions by South himself and Dobie Gray appeared shortly after the original. Gray's version became a minor hit in North America in 1969. In 1970, Lynn Anderson recorded "Rose Garden" after hearing Joe South's version. MARRS (stylised M, A, R, R, S) were a 1987 recording collective formed by the groups A.R. Kane and Colourbox, which only released one commercial disc. It became "a one-hit wonder of rare influence" because of their international hit " Pump Up the Volume", which was their only single. History MARRS started in 1987 as an intended collaboration between the groups A.R. Kane and Colourbox, with additional input from DJs Chris "C.J." Mackintosh and Dave Dorrell.
