Moutsouna
Moutsouna (in Greek: ''Μουτσούνα'') is a small seaside village on the eastern coast of the island of Naxos Island, Naxos, Greece. It has a relatively open bay and limited port facilities. It is located approximately 39 km from the capital of the island, and 11 km from the village of Apiranthos. Moutsouna has its own football team (Moutsouna fc). History Until the early 1980s, Moutsouna was the port from which emery (mineral), emery (used as an abrasive) was loaded in boats and exported. The emery is mined up the mountain and was transported to the port by an aerial cableway. The cableway and the remains of the transfer station in Moutsouna can still be seen today. Administratively it belongs to Apeiranthos with which it is connected by road. In 1960 it had 65 inhabitants. Naxos Island
Naxos (; , ) is a Greek island belonging to the Cyclades island group. It is the largest island in the group. It was an important centre during the Bronze Age Cycladic Culture and in the Ancient Greek Archaic Period. The island is famous as a source of emery, a rock rich in corundum, which until modern times was one of the best abrasives available. The largest town and capital of the island is Chora or Naxos City, with 8,897 inhabitants (2021 census). The main villages are Filoti, Apiranthos, Vivlos, Agios Arsenios, Koronos and Glynado. Apiranthos
Apeiranthos or Aperathos ( or ; local dialect: , ) is a mountainous village on the island of Naxos in Greece. It is located north-east of the capital of the island, built on the foothill of mountain Fanari, on an altitude between 570 and 640 m. The similarities of the local dialect and traditions to those of mountainous Cretan villages has led some historians to the conclusion that Apeiranthos was built by Cretans during the 10th century. The first historical evidence regarding the existence of the village goes back to 1420, on a reference by the Italian traveler Cristoforo Buondelmonti on his book '' Liber insularum archipelagi'' (''The Book of the Islands of the Archipelago''). The village has four museums: the Archaeological Museum of Apeiranthos, the Museum of Folk Art, the Geological Museum, and the Museum of Natural History. Emery, or corundite, is a dark granular rock used to make an abrasive powder. The rock largely consists of corundum (aluminium oxide), mixed with other minerals. Industrial emery may contain a variety of other minerals and synthetic compounds. Crushed or naturally eroded emery (known as ''black sand'') is used as an abrasive.
