The Mounted Games Association of Great Britain is the governing body for mounted games in Great Britain. It was formed to allow riders to compete in mounted games past The Pony Club upper age limit of 14 years old. The association is one of the 16 organisations which form part of the British Equestrian Federation. History Mounted games were the inspiration of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and were first played at the 1957 Horse of the Year Show. The Pony Club
The Pony Club is a voluntary organisation founded in England in 1929. It has now expanded internationally and Pony Club branches can be found worldwide. It is one of 16 organisations that form the British Equestrian Federation. The Pony Club was granted independent charitable status on 1 January 1997, and there are around 330 branches and 480 centres in the UK. The Pony Club has been the starting point for a large majority of equestrian team members and medal winners. History The Pony Club was formed in Great Britain in 1929 when the Institute of the Horse formed a youth branch of their organization, "The Pony Club." It was formed to encourage children to start riding, while providing them with opportunities in the field that they would not be able to reach on their own. British Equestrian (previously The British Equestrian Federation) founded 1972 is the national governing body of equestrian sport in Great Britain and represents the country at the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI). Her Majesty the Queen Consort is the organisation's Patron. Remit As an umbrella body the purpose of the federation is the steering of equestrianism in Britain. Horse Of The Year Show
The Horse of the Year Show - also known as HOYS (pronounced /hois/)- was founded to be a culmination of the British equestrian events year. The Show was the idea of Captain Tony Collings and was realised by the then Chairman of BSJA (now British Showjumping), Mike Ansell. As it was to be the end of Season Finale the show needed to be held indoors, making it a unique event. History HOYS was first held in 1949 at Harringay Arena in Harringay, London. It was held as an annual event which moved to Wembley Arena, London, ten years later. The show again moved to Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre in 2002 due to the impending closure of Wembley Arena for reconstruction, where it is now held every October.
