Mountbellew–Moylough (Irish language, Irish: ''An Creagán/Maugh Locha'') is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in County Galway, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club is a member of the Galway GAA. The club was formerly known as Mountbellew before amalgamating with Moylough. On 14 November 2021, they won their first Galway Senior Club Football Championship title since 1986 with a win over reigning All-Ireland club champions Corofin GAA (Galway), Corofin. Mountbellew
Mountbellew or Mountbellew Bridge (historically ''Creggaun'', from ) is a town in County Galway, Ireland. It lies mostly within the townland of Treanrevagh (''Trian Riabhach'') on the N63 national primary road. As of the 2022 census, it had a population of 774. Amenities Mountbellew has a number of shops and small businesses. There are four schools located in the town: St. Mary's National School; two secondary schools, Holy Rosary College and Coláiste an Chreagáin; and the Franciscan Brothers Agricultural College, part of the Atlantic Technological University. The local secondary school " Holy Rosary College Mountbellew" is home to an All Weather sports facility that was originally built in 2017 with the intention of renting it out to various third parties, especially during the winter in aid of raising money for the school. Joe Bergin (Gaelic Footballer)
Joe Bergin (born 17 February 1981) is an Irish people, Irish former Gaelic footballer who played at senior level for the Galway county football team, Galway county team from 2000 to 2012. From Galway, he played his club football with Mountbellew–Moylough GAA, Mountbellew–Moylough. Playing career Bergin's rise at a young age was meteoric. He burst onto the scene in All-Ireland Senior Football Championship 2000, 2000 as part of a Galway side that reached that year's All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final; losing to Kerry GAA, Kerry after a replay. Stephen White (Gaelic Footballer)
Stephen White (1 September 1928 – 6 September 2009) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a left wing-back for the Louth senior team. White made his debut on the inter-county scene in 1946 when he linked up with the Galway minor team while attending Mountbellew Agricultural College on a scholarship. That year he played in both the Connacht Minor and Connacht Junior football finals for the Tribesmen. In 1947 he made his senior inter-county debut for Louth. White went on to win an All-Ireland medal in 1957 and four Leinster medals with his county. He was voted Footballer of the Year in 1957 in recognition of his performances for Louth throughout the year. He was also an All-Ireland runner-up in 1950 and captained Louth during the 1951 season. Johnny Hughes
John "Johnny" Hughes (born 1950) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played as a left wing-back at senior level for the Galway county team. Born in Mountbellew, County Galway, Hughes served his Gaelic football apprenticeship with the local club, moving upwards through the grades. An injury prevented him from appearing for the Galway minor team; however, he later spent three years with the under-21 side. He made his senior debut in various tournament games in 1973. Hughes played a key role in defence over the next decade, and won five Connacht medals, one National Football League medal and two All-Star awards. Val Daly
Val Daly is an Irish Gaelic football manager and former player. Originally from Mountbellew, Daly made his debut with the county side in the 1981 National League and played until the 1997 Championship season when he was player manager. An All-Star in 1987 and 1990, Daly won five Connacht Senior Football Championship titles. As well as managing the Galway football team between 1996 and 1997, he was also appointed temporary manager of the Roscommon county football team in 2005, after the resignation of Tommy Carr from the post. John Daly (Gaelic Footballer)
John Daly is a Gaelic footballer who plays for the Mountbellew–Moylough club and at senior level for the Galway county team. He is the son of Val Daly, who also played for Galway and was also a manager. John Daly played for Galway in the 2022 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final. The referee Sean Hurson took him to task in the closing stages and Jim McGuinness said this was unfair afterwards. Enda Colleran
Enda Colleran (May 1942 – 8 April 2004) was an Irish Gaelic footballer and manager who played for the Mountbellew–Moylough club and at senior level for the Galway county team. Career A native of Moylough, Colleran's Gaelic football prowess was first noticed on the national stage in 1960 when he won an All-Ireland Minor Championship medal with Galway and a Hogan Cup medal with St Jarlath's College. Having made his Galway senior debut in 1961, he went on to play in four successive All-Ireland senior finals between 1963 and 1966, winning the latter three against Kerry (twice) and Meath. Colleran also picked up two Sigerson Cup medals with University College Galway and became only the fourth Connacht man to captain his province to Railway Cup success when they beat Ulster in the 1967 final.
