Mount Vernon High School (Ohio)
Mount Vernon High School is a public four-year high school located in Mount Vernon, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Mount Vernon City Schools district. The school's mascot is the Yellow Jacket, and its official colors are orange and black. The mascot is actually orange and black rather than yellow and black, due to copyright reasons. It is located at 300 Martinsburg Road, near State Route 586. Near the high school is Mount Vernon Middle School, the only one in the district. Also nearby is Mount Vernon Nazarene University, MVNU. Mount Vernon is currently a member of the Ohio Cardinal Conference. Mount Vernons Varsity Basketball Program has recently been acquired by the tandem of Jason Moore and Nick Wever with special contributions from Kade Focht. Mount Vernon, Ohio
Mount Vernon is a city in Knox County, Ohio, United States. It is located northeast of Columbus. The population was 16,990 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Knox County. History The community was platted in 1805, and named after Mount Vernon, the estate owned by George Washington. In May 1953, the telephone exchange for the entire city was destroyed by fire, disrupting calls for months. In January 1959, a severe flood caused 500 homes to be evacuated and caused $5 million in damage. In October of 2021, a board of clergy and activists unanimously voted to start a chapter of PFLAG in Mount Vernon. PFLAG will be the second LGBTQ+ organization formed in Knox County. Paul Lynde
Paul Edward Lynde (; June 13, 1926January 10, 1982) was an American comedian, actor and game show panelist. A character actor with a distinctively campy and snarky persona that often poked fun at his barely closeted homosexuality, Lynde was well known for his roles as Uncle Arthur on ''Bewitched,'' the befuddled father Harry MacAfee in '' Bye Bye Birdie'' and as a regular "center square" panelist on the game show '' The Hollywood Squares'' from 1968 to 1981. David Hahn (born 1955 in Omaha, Nebraska) is an American businessman and the CEO of Internet development company New Digital Group and was the Democratic nominee for Governor of Nebraska in 2006. Biography Hahn was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1955 and spent most of his youth in Schuyler and Stromsburg, Nebraska. When he was 15 years old, his family moved to Mount Vernon, Ohio, and he graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1973. In 1978, he graduated from Sterling College in Kansas with a bachelor's degree in political science and philosophy. His undergraduate education included a year studying philosophy and theology at Phillips University in Marburg, Germany. After college, he returned to his home state and obtained a J.D. degree in 1981 from the University of Nebraska. The National Junior Classical League (National JCL or NJCL) is a youth organization of secondary school students sponsored by the American Classical League (ACL). Founded in 1936, the NJCL comprises more than 1,000 Latin, Greek and Classical chapters in the United States, Canada, South Korea and the United Kingdom, and with over 45,000 members, is the largest Classical organization in the world today. MVNU
Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) is a private Christian university in Mount Vernon, Ohio, with satellite locations in the surrounding area. It was founded in 1968 by the Church of the Nazarene and offers a variety of Bachelor's and Master's degrees to both traditional and non-traditional students. History The result of a 1960 education commission, Mount Vernon Nazarene was first chartered as the Zone A College of the Church of the Nazarene in 1964 by the church's General Assembly. The Ohio Cardinal Conference, which began play in 2003, is an OHSAA athletic league whose members are from Ashland, Holmes, Richland, and Wayne counties in Ohio. The conference name stems from the local legacy of the Cardinal Conference.
