Mount Roosevelt is a mountain in the Green Mountains in the U.S. state of Vermont. Located in the Breadloaf Wilderness of the Green Mountain National Forest, its summit is in the town of Ripton in Addison County. The mountain is named after Theodore Roosevelt, former president of the United States. Mount Roosevelt is one of five peaks in Vermont's Presidential Range. Drainage basin Mount Roosevelt stands within the watersheds of Lake Champlain and the Connecticut River. The southeast side of Mount Roosevelt drains into the Clark Brook, thence into the White River, the Connecticut River, and ultimately into Long Island Sound in Connecticut. The headwaters of a river or stream is the farthest place in that river or stream from its estuary or downstream confluence with another river, as measured along the course of the river. It is also known as a river's source. Lincoln, Vermont
Lincoln is a town in Addison County, Vermont, United States. Lincoln is located at the base of Mount Abraham in the Green Mountains. It was settled by Quakers in the late 18th Century. The population was 1,323 at the 2020 census. Today, Lincoln is known for its scenic, rural beauty and its proximity to two Vermont ski areas, Mad River Glen and Sugarbush. Granville, Vermont
Granville is a town in Addison County, Vermont, United States. The population was 301 at the 2020 census. The town was originally called Kingston but was renamed in 1833. Granville was one of thirteen Vermont towns isolated by flooding caused by Hurricane Irene in 2011. Geography Granville is located in the eastern corner of Addison County. The villages of Granville and Lower Granville are located in a valley in the center of the town, with the Northfield Mountains rising to the east and the main crest of the Green Mountains rising to the west. Long Trail
The Long Trail is a hiking trail located in Vermont, running the length of the state. It is the oldest long-distance trail in the United States, constructed between 1910 and 1930 by the Green Mountain Club. The club remains the primary organization responsible for the trail, and is recognized by the state legislature as "the founder, sponsor, defender, and protector" of the Long Trail System. History The Long Trail was conceived in 1909 by James P. Taylor who was at the time the assistant headmaster of Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, Vermont. Taylor lobbied other Vermont residents who shared his dream of a mission to "make the Vermont mountains play a larger part in the life of the people by protecting and maintaining the Long Trail system and fostering, through education, the stewardship of Vermont's hiking trails and mountains".
