Mount Kuring-Gai
Mount Kuring-gai is an outer suburb of Northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Mount Kuring-gai is located 31 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Hornsby Shire. It is mostly known for American-Australian actor Mel Gibson living there in his youth. History The name "Kuring-gai" derives from the Guringai Aboriginal people who were thought to be the traditional owners of the area. More contemporary research suggests that this was not the case. The railway station opened on 5 October 1901 and was named Kuring-gai. The current station was constructed in 1909. The ''Mount'' was added to the name on 1 August 1904. ''Kuring-gai'' Post Office opened on 27 January 1908 and was similarly renamed ''Mount Kuring-gai'' in 1933. Mount Kuring-gai Public School opened in 1957. Native title is the set of rights, recognised by Australian law, held by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups or individuals to land that derive from their maintenance of their traditional laws and customs. Hawkesbury River
The Hawkesbury River, or Hawkesbury-Nepean River (Dharug language, Dharug: Dyarubbin) is a river located northwest of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The Hawkesbury River and its associated main tributary, the Nepean River, almost encircle the metropolitan region of Sydney. Dangar Island
Dangar Island is a forested island, in area, in the Hawkesbury River, on the northern outskirts of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Dangar Island is a suburb of Hornsby Shire and as at the 2021 census had a population of 313, which swells dramatically during holiday seasons. The island is serviced regularly by Brooklyn Ferry Service and departs from Brooklyn and takes about fifteen minutes. The Brooklyn ferry is itself adjacent to Hawkesbury River railway station. Great North Walk
The Great North Walk is a walking track which runs from Sydney to Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia. The main track, in length, runs between the Obelisk in Macquarie Place in Sydney to Queens Wharf in Bicentennial Park in Newcastle and is well sign-posted. There are many "side tracks" which link the track to populated areas along the length of the walk. The walk includes a huge variety of wildlife and scenery. A section at the northern, Newcastle end, is also known as the Yuelarbah Track. This section runs from Teralba railway station to the Queens Wharf on Newcastle Harbour. At Kahibah Station, the Great North Walk uses a short section of The Fernleigh Track and passes along the northern side of Glenrock Lagoon to get to the coast. Hornsby is a suburb on the North Shore (Sydney), Upper North Shore of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia, approximately north-west of the Sydney central business district. It is the administrative centre of the Local government in Australia, local government area of Hornsby Shire. History The area was initially known as "Hornsby’s Bush", after the Hornsby family, who were the early settlers. The land was primarily used for agriculture, including farming, timber cutting, and later, mining. The name Hornsby is derived from convict-turned-constable Samuel Henry Horne, who took part in the apprehension of bushrangers Dalton and MacNamara on 22 June 1830. It is an umbrella brand of ComfortDelGro Australia established in 2017 to cover the latter's New South Wales operations, some of which had been owned by ComfortDelGro since 2005.
