Mount Carmel Convent
Mount Carmel Convent is a heritage-listed Roman Catholic former convent at 199 Bay Terrace, Wynnum, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Hall & Dods and built in 1915 by William Richard Juster. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 27 August 1999. The building operated as a convent from 1915 until 2011 and has subsequently been sold and renovated as a residence with bed-and-breakfast accommodation. History Mt Carmel Convent, a substantial two storey brick building with surrounding verandahs, was constructed in 1915 as a convent for the Sisters of Mercy. Richard Gailey
Richard Gailey, Sr. (22 April 1834 – 24 April 1924) was an Irish-born Australian architect. Gailey was born in County Donegal, Ireland and emigrated to Australia in 1864, becoming an influential and prolific architect in colonial-era Brisbane. He died in Brisbane on 24 April 1924, two days after his ninetieth birthday, and is buried in Cleveland Cemetery along with his wife Mary, née Rice. St Brigid's Church is a heritage-listed Roman Catholic church located at 78 Musgrave Road, Red Hill, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Robin Dods
Robert Smith (Robin) Dods (9 June 1868 – 23 July 1920) was a New Zealand-born Australian architect. Personal life Dods was born in Dunedin, New Zealand on 9 June 1868. His parents were Robert Smith Dods (a wholesale grocer) and Elizabeth Gray, née Stodart. His parents both came from Edinburgh, Scotland. However, the family did not stay long in New Zealand and returned to Edinburgh in the early 1870s, where his father died in 1876. His mother Elizabeth then immigrated to Brisbane. On the voyage she met Charles Ferdinard Marks, a physician, whom she married in Brisbane in 1879. Dods was educated at Brisbane Grammar School. He died at Edgecliff, Sydney on 23 July 1920. Francis Richard Hall (9 February 1862 – 18 March 1939) was an architect in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Many of his works are listed on the Queensland Heritage Register. Early life Francis Hall was born on 9 February 1862 in Brisbane, the son of architect John Richard Hall and his wife Philadelphia (née Starr). He attended school in Brisbane and Maryborough before winning a scholarship in 1875 to attend Brisbane Grammar School. His half-brother, Thomas Ramsay Hall also trained as an architect. Career He commenced his architectural career in 1896 when he joined his father's practice which was then renamed Hall & Son. After his father's death in 1883, he became head of the practice.
