Moundland
Moundland was a historic plantation home located between Simpsonville and Guilford, Howard County, Maryland, now part of the Columbia land development. The stone manor home Moundland was built by Charles R. Stewart in 1846 for his daughter and her husband Charles Griffith Worthington Jr., who served on the first panel of Howard County Commissioners. The English imported locks on the house were dated to 1830. The 22 inch thick walls were quarried onsite and the original floors remained intact. The house neighbored Granite Park manor home, which was also built by Stewart. In 1966, 245 acres of property surrounding the 10 acre Moundland site were purchased by the Howard Research and Development for the creation of the Rouse Company planned community project called Columbia. The Moundland property was later purchased by South Columbia Baptist Church, which, in 1991, demolished Moundland to build a new church facility. Guilford, Maryland
Guilford is an unincorporated community located in Howard County in the state of Maryland. The location is named after the Guilford Mill. Guilford is near Kings Contrivance, one of the nine "villages" of Columbia. For United States Census Bureau statistics, Guilford is split between the census-designated places of Savage and Columbia. History The area around Guilford was settled before it was called by the name of its mill. In 1711, the Log Chapel of Ease, now called Christ Church Guilford, was founded to the north of Guilford on a piece of land surveyed as "New Year's Gift" by Charles Carroll of Carrollton. The first full-time rector was James Magill, who lived at Athol. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Simpsonville is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, Howard County, Maryland, United States. History People and nature have long flourished beside the Patuxent River, Middle Patuxent River. Howard Research And Development
The Rouse Company was a publicly traded shopping mall and community developer from 1956 until 2004, when General Growth Properties (GGP) purchased the company. It was founded by Hunter Moss and James W. Rouse in 1939. Beginnings: Moss-Rouse Company The Moss-Rouse Company was founded as a FHA mortgage company with a loan from Hunter Moss's sister. Rouse leveraged his knowledge as loan guarantee specialist at the Federal Housing Administration to establish a Baltimore-based mortgage company specializing in FHA backed loans. Moss-Rouse hired a World War Two Navy friend, Churchill G. Carey from Connecticut General, who in turn provided capital for future projects. Carey would hold positions ranging from president to CEO of the mortgage company subsidiary.
