The discography of Motörhead, an English rock band, consists of 23 studio albums, 21 live albums, 16 compilation albums, five extended plays (EPs), three box sets, 29 singles, 10 video albums and 34 music videos. Motörhead were originally formed in 1975 in London by bassist and vocalist Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister, after his departure from Hawkwind, who drafted in guitarist Larry Wallis and drummer Lucas Fox (who was quickly replaced by Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor) to complete the band's initial lineup. The trio recorded their debut album for release on United Artists, although it was not released until 1979 as '' On Parole''. "Fast" Eddie Clarke joined the band as a second guitarist soon after this recording was completed, but as it was shelved by United Artists and even though ''On Parole'' is chronologically the band's first album, Clarke would instead replace Wallis who left soon after Clarke joined for unspecified reasons. Motörhead
Motörhead () were an English rock music, rock band formed in London in 1975 by bassist and lead vocalist Lemmy Kilmister, guitarist Larry Wallis and drummer Lucas Fox. Kilmister was the primary songwriter and only constant member. The band are often considered a precursor to the new wave of British heavy metal, which re-energised heavy metal music, heavy metal in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Though several guitarists and drummers have played in Motörhead, most of their best-selling albums and singles feature drummer Phil Taylor (musician), Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor and guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke. From 1995 until the band's break-up in 2015, the group consisted of Kilmister, guitarist Phil Campbell (musician), Phil Campbell and drummer Mikkey Dee. On Parole
''On Parole'' is a studio recording released by British rock band Motörhead, which at the time consisted of Lemmy Kilmister on vocals and bass, Larry Wallis on guitar, and Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor on drums (replacing Lucas Fox). It was intended as their first album and left unreleased at the time of its completion in 1976, and it was not released until over three years later, in November 1979, after the commercial success of ''Overkill'' and ''Bomber'' that same year. It was released without the band's permission, and they consequently distanced themselves from it. As a result, it was not considered an official release by the band at the time and they did not want it released, as they had moved on, since then, first to Chiswick Records and then to Bronze Records. The LP entered the UK charts on 8 December, where it peaked at No. 65. Iron Fist (album)
''Iron Fist'' is the fifth studio album by English rock band Motörhead, released on April 17 1982 by Bronze Records. It was the final album of the classic Three Amigos lineup of Lemmy Kilmister, "Fast" Eddie Clarke, and Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor. The album peaked at No. 6 on the UK album charts. It was preceded by the release of the title track "Iron Fist" as a single, which entered the UK charts on 3 April, and peaked at No. 29. Recording As with 1980's ''Ace of Spades'', recording commenced with producer Vic Maile at his Jackson's Studio in Rickmansworth in 1981. ''Ace of Spades'' is the fourth studio album by English rock band Motörhead, released on 1 November 1980 via Bronze Records. It is the band's most commercially successful album, peaking at number four on the UK Albums Chart and reaching gold status in the UK by March 1981. "Bomber" is a song by the English heavy metal band Motörhead, recorded and released in 1979 (see 1979 in music). It is the title track to their album ''Bomber'' and was released as a single peaking at 34 on the UK Singles Chart. The single was released in the UK by Bronze Records as a 7-inch vinyl single with the first 20,000 copies pressed in blue vinyl and thereafter in black. "Overkill" is a song by English rock band Motörhead. It was released in 7" and 12" vinyl pressings in 1979. It is backed with B-side "Too Late Too Late" which appears on the CD re-issues of the '' Overkill'' album. Early copies came with an "Overkill" badge. The single reached number 39 on the UK Singles Chart. Background and release On 9 March 1979, the band played this song on the BBC TV show ''Top of the Pops'' to support the release of the single. ''Bomber'' is the third studio album by English rock band Motörhead. It was released on 12 October 1979 by Bronze Records, their second with the label. Background By 1979, Motörhead had been together for four years and had amassed a loyal following in both punk and heavy metal circles. After recording an album for United Artists that the label shelved, the band released its eponymous debut LP in 1977, but it was with 1979's ''Overkill'' that the band hit their stride. The title track landed in the UK Top 40 and, after appearing again on ''Top of the Pops'', the band returned to the studio that summer with legendary producer Jimmy Miller to record what would become ''Bomber''. ''Overkill'' is the second studio album by English rock band Motörhead, released on 3 March 1979. It was the band's first album with Bronze Records. ''Kerrang!'' magazine listed the album at number 46 among the "100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time". American thrash metal band Overkill was named after this album. Background Bronze Records signed Motörhead in 1978 and booked them time in London's Wessex Studios to record a single consisting of Richard Berry's "Louie Louie" and a new song by the band called "Tear Ya Down". Bronze Records was an independent English record label founded in 1971 by record producer Gerry Bron on Oxford Street in London, eventually relocating to Chalk Farm. History Bron had been producing Uriah Heep (band), Uriah Heep for Vertigo Records, and he set up the new label for future Uriah Heep releases, along with Juicy Lucy (band), Juicy Lucy, Richard Barnes (musician), Richard Barnes, Eastern Alliance and Colosseum (band), Colosseum. The Official Albums Chart is the United Kingdom's industry-recognised national record chart for album, albums. Entries are ranked by sales and audio streaming. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on ''UKChartsPlus'' as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of ''The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums'') in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed, this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as ''The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums'' only including this data. Chiswick Records
Chiswick Records was a British independent record label. Established in 1975, Chiswick was the "first true ' indie' label to be established in Britain for nearly a decade". The label has been described as "significant" in the "punk era". It released some of the earliest records recorded by The Hammersmith Gorillas, The Count Bishops, Motörhead, Joe Strummer’s The 101ers, The Damned, Skrewdriver, Billy Bragg, Kirsty MacColl, and Shane MacGowan. History The label was started by Ted Carroll and Roger Armstrong in 1975 as a subsidiary of Rock On Records. Shortly after Trevor Churchill joined, it was incorporated into Swift Records Ltd. Two years later it entered into a licensing deal with EMI. Subsidiary Ace Records was started in 1978, and Chiswick Records closed in 1983; its back catalogue is still owned by Ace Records Ltd.
