Motorcycling Ireland
Motorcycling Ireland, MCI, Motor Cycle Union of Ireland (MCUI) is the governing body of motorcycle racing in the Republic of Ireland. On the 7th of March 2002 the MCUI became the first Motorcycle Federation in the world to reach 100 years old. The motorcycle racing is growing in popularity, in 2019 Mondello Park international circuit is hosting 26 motorcycle racing days, compared to 11 car racing days. Nonetheless, spiraling event insurance costs caused reduction of events in 2017. Controversies In 2016 Motorcycling Ireland blocked a beach race from taking place in Portmarnock on 22 May by submitting an objection to the Fingal County Council, who initially have approved the event. Motocross clubs promptly reorganized the event to an Open Grass Track event in Ballough Lusk, Co. Dublin the following weekend. Balbriggan
Balbriggan (; , IPA: �bˠalʲəˈbʲɾʲɪɟiːnʲ is a coastal town in Fingal, in the northern part of County Dublin, Ireland, approximately 34 km from Dublin City. The 2016 census population was 21,722 for Balbriggan and its environs. Etymology According to P. W. Joyce, the name arises from ''Baile Breacain'' ic which literally means "Brecan's Town". Brecan is a common medieval first name and there are several other Brackenstowns in Ireland. The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM; en, International Motorcycling Federation) is the global governing/sanctioning body of motorcycle racing. It represents 116 national motorcycle federations that are divided into six regional continental unions. There are seven motorcycle-racing disciplines that FIM covers, encompassing 82 world championships as well as hundreds of secondary championships: enduro, trial, circuit racing, motocross and supermoto, cross-country, e-bike, and track racing. FIM is also involved in many non-racing activities that promote the sport, its safety, and support relevant public policy. Mondello Park
Mondello Park is Ireland's only international motorsport venue and is located in Caragh, County Kildare off the R409 regional road, approximately from Dublin city centre. History The Mondello Park short circuit was designed on farmland near Naas in Co Kildare by Stuart Cosgrave in 1966, following the demise of the Dunboyne motor races on traditional and dangerous roads in Co Meath. The circuit opened in 1968, and was extended via the National Loop the following year. Well-known Irish drivers such as Derek Daly, David Kennedy, Tommy Byrne and Eddie Jordan cut their teeth on the circuit in the 1970s and early 1980s, going on to international fame, but financial difficulties emerged thereafter. Portmarnock () is a coastal suburban settlement in Fingal, Ireland, with significant beaches, a modest commercial core and inland residential estates, and two golf courses, including one of Ireland's best-known golf clubs. , the population was 9,466, an increase on the Census 2011 figure of 9,285.
