Mother Studios
Mother Studios is an organisation which provides work spaces for artists in London. MOTHER STUDIOS in HACKNEY WICK, London and Colchester, Essex is an independent, non-profit, artist-run organisation. It was founded in August 2001 by artist Joanna Hughes for fine artists, designers and makers. In the site in London, there is 15,000 square feet of warehouse space housing 43 affordable, quality studio spaces. Since 2004, Mother Project and Exhibition space opened in Mother Studios – a 1,200 square foot space. The gallery space has also housed Elevator Gallery and Banksy. A second site for Mother Studios in Colchester, Essex was set up in 2015. The space is 14,000 square feet and is home to 34 studios. Elevator Gallery
Elevator Gallery is a contemporary art venue in Balfron Tower. The gallery first opened in 2007 in Hackney Wick Hackney Wick is a neighbourhood in East London, England. The area forms the south-eastern part of the district of Hackney, and also of the wider London Borough of Hackney. Adjacent areas of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, namely Fish I ..., London, and has since been on location at various venues around London. Besides regular exhibitions of contemporary art, the gallery has a varied programme of live art, cinema and musical events. The gallery opened on 20 October 2007, with its opening show 'Magical Thinking'. Since then it has mainly been curated by artists Simon Reuben White and Snoozie Hexagon. Banksy
Banksy is a pseudonymous England-based street artist, political activist, and film director whose real name and identity remain unconfirmed and the subject of speculation. Active since the 1990s, his satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine black comedy, dark humour with graffiti executed in a distinctive Stencil graffiti, stenciling technique. His works of political and social commentary have appeared on streets, walls, and bridges throughout the world. His work grew out of the Bristol underground scene, which involved collaborations between artists and musicians. Banksy says that he was inspired by 3D, a graffiti artist and founding member of the musical group Massive Attack. Banksy displays his art on publicly visible surfaces such as walls and self-built physical prop pieces. Hackney Wick is a neighbourhood in East London, England. The area forms the south-eastern part of the district of Hackney, and also of the wider London Borough of Hackney. Adjacent areas of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, namely Fish Island, are sometimes also described as being part of Hackney Wick. The area lies 4.2 miles (6.8 km) northeast of Charing Cross. Geography Hackney Wick is the south-eastern part of the historic district of Hackney, and also of the wider modern London Borough of Hackney. River Lea
The River Lea ( ) is in the East of England and Greater London. It originates in Bedfordshire, in the Chiltern Hills, and flows southeast through Hertfordshire, along the Essex border and into Greater London, to meet the River Thames at Bow Creek (England), Bow Creek. It is one of the largest rivers in London and the easternmost major tributary of the Thames. The river's significance as a major east–west barrier and boundary has tended to obscure its importance as north–south trade route.
