Motala Arena
Motala Arena or Autoexperten Arena for sponsorship purposes is a motorcycle speedway track located in the southern outskirts of Motala. The track is on the Vinnerstadsvägen road and forms part of the Dunteberget Motorstadion, which includes motocross and a smaller speedway track inside the standard track. The stadium hosts the Piraterna speedway team that compete in the Swedish Speedway Team Championship and have been champions of Sweden on two occasions. History The stadium opened in 1972 and hosted significant speedway events such as a qualifying event for the World Championship from 1979 to 1983 and the semi final of the Junior European Championship in 2001. Arguably its most valuable events held were the Swedish Individual Speedway Championship in 2006 and in 2009 and 2010, it hosted the semi final of the World Championship qualifying known as the Grand Prix Challenge. Motala () is a locality and the seat of Motala Municipality, Östergötland County, Sweden with 29,823 inhabitants (41,956 in the entire municipality) in 2010. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). 2009 Speedway Grand Prix Qualification
The 2009 Individual Speedway World Championship Grand Prix Qualification Meetings are a series of speedway meetings used to determine the three riders and one reserve who qualify for the 2009 Speedway Grand Prix. The top eight riders finishing the 2008 Grand Prix series automatically qualify for 2009. Calendar Allocation Qualifying Rules: * Riders placed 1st to 7th + 1 reserve from each Qualifying Round will qualify for the semi-final. * Riders placed 1st to 8th + 1 reserve from each Semi-Final will qualify for the Grand Prix Challenge. Jonas Davidsson
Jonas Davidsson (born 7 August 1984 in Motala, Sweden) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden and he was a member of Swedish national team. Career Davidsson came to prominence after reaching three World Under 21 finals in 2003, 2004 and 2005. He also won the Swedish Junior Speedway Championship in 2005. He signed for his first British team Reading Racers for the 2003 Premier League speedway season and his first Polish team Zielona Góra in 2006. In 2008, Davidsson experienced arguably his fineest career achievement when he won a bronze medal representing Sweden at the 2008 Speedway World Cup. It was also in 2008 that he joined the Lakeside Hammers in the Elite League. He would go on spend five seasons with the club and win the Elite League Knockout Cup in 2009. He continued to ride in Poland after his British career came to an end and last raced in 2019 for Krosno.
