Moss Point High School is a State school#United States, public high school in Moss Point, Mississippi, United States. It is part of the Moss Point School District. History Moss Point High School was established in 1883 in a two-story schoolhouse. Tuition was required. There was also a Moss Point Academy. William Cole served as principal in 1930 and shot game at Pascagoula Springs. Magnolia High School served the area's African American students during segregation. W. H. Whisenton was its principal. Moss Point High School was white only. A two-story art deco school building was constructed as part of a Works Project Administration (WPA) project in 1941. Magnolia High School closed in the 1970s. Monarchs were the school mascot and the school colors were purple and gold. After desegregation Magnolia became a junior high school. Moss Point is a city in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 12,147 in 2020, a decline from the figure of 13,704 in 2010. The Moss Point Historic District and several individual buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places' Jackson County listings. History On August 29, 2005, Moss Point was hit by the strong east side of Hurricane Katrina, and much of the city was flooded or destroyed (see details below). Moss Point is home to Trent Lott International Airport and the Mississippi Export Railroad. An EF2 tornado touched down in Moss Point on June 19, 2023 The tornado covered six miles of the city and damaged or destroyed over 300 homes and businesses.
