Mosei Lin
Lin Mosei (; Katakana: リン モセイ; born 30 October 1887, disappeared 11 March 1947) was a Taiwanese academic, educator, and the first Taiwanese to receive a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in the United States. He was also a calligrapher and was a Christian. Lin disappeared within days of the February 28 Incident in Taiwan in 1947; he is generally believed to have been killed as a part of Chinese Nationalist Party's crackdown after the island-wide civilian uprising. Lin's second son, Lin Tsung-yi, was an academic and educator in psychiatry. Donggang, Pingtung
Donggang Township or Tungkang Township () is an urban township in west-central Pingtung County, Taiwan. Located on Taiwan's western coastline, along the Taiwan Strait, it has one of Taiwan's largest fishing harbors. Dapeng Bay with its national scenic area is just south of Donggang. The town also hosts Donglong Temple (), which is dedicated to "Lord Wen" (. The word Wen is pronounced the same as "plague" in both Hokkien and Mandarin Chinese) and is known for its triannual ceremony of "burning lord's boat" (burning plague boat). History Donggang was opened as a port by the Chinese admiral Koxinga in the 17th century. It was a major commercial port for Taiwan until the end of the 19th century. Paul Monroe
Paul Monroe, Ph.D., LL.D. (1869–1947) was an American educator. He specialized in the history of education, and in comparative studies. Biography He was born at North Madison, Indiana. He graduated at Franklin College (Indiana), Franklin College, Franklin, Indiana in 1890, studied at the University of Heidelberg and took his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1897.
