George Moscone
George Richard Moscone (; November 24, 1929 – November 27, 1978) was an American attorney and Democratic politician. He was the 37th mayor of San Francisco, California from January 1976 until his assassination in November 1978. He was known as "The People's Mayor", who opened up City Hall and its commissions to reflect the diversity of San Francisco, appointing African Americans, Asian Americans, and homosexuals. Moscone served in the California State Senate from 1967 until becoming Mayor. In the Senate, he served as Majority Leader. Moscone is remembered for being an advocate of civil progressivism. Moscone–Milk Assassinations
On November 27, 1978, San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk were shot and killed in San Francisco City Hall by former Supervisor Dan White. On the morning of that day, Moscone intended to announce that the Supervisor position White resigned from would be given to someone else. White, angered, entered City Hall before the scheduled announcement time and first shot Moscone in the Mayor's office, then Harvey Milk in White's former office space, before escaping the building. Board of Supervisors President Dianne Feinstein first announced Moscone and Milk's deaths to the media, and because of Moscone's death, succeeded him as Acting Mayor of San Francisco. Dan White was charged with first-degree murder with circumstances that made him eligible for the death penalty. Moscone Center
The George R. Moscone Convention Center (pronounced ), popularly known as the Moscone Center, is the largest convention and exhibition complex in San Francisco, California. The complex consists of three main halls spread out across three blocks and in the South of Market neighborhood. The convention center originally opened in 1981. It is named after San Francisco former mayor George Moscone, who was assassinated in November 1978. Moscone Recreation Center
Moscone Recreation Center is a park located between Chestnut Street and Bay Street, Laguna Street and Webster Street in San Francisco's Marina District. Formerly known as Funston Park (honoring Frederick Funston), the area was renamed in honor of San Francisco mayor George Moscone, who was assassinated in 1978. The park includes tennis courts, baseball diamonds, children's playgrounds, basketball courts, and putting greens. The park has been a favorite of San Franciscans since its inception in the 1920s. Jonathan Moscone (born October 5, 1964) is an American theater director, and currently the Executive Director of the California Arts Council under Governor Gavin Newsom's administration. Formerly the Chief Producer of Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA), and artistic director of California Shakespeare Theater (Cal Shakes) in Berkeley and Orinda, California for 16 years, Moscone received the inaugural Zelda Fichandler Award, given by the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation for his transformative work in theater in 2009. Yerba Buena/Moscone Station
Yerba Buena/Moscone station is an underground Muni Metro light rail station located at 4th Street and Folsom Street in the South of Market (SoMa) district of San Francisco, California. It is named for the adjacent Yerba Buena Gardens and Moscone Convention Center. It opened on November 19, 2022, as part of the Central Subway project. The station is served by the T Third Street line which runs between and . Service Yerba Buena station has only one entrance, located close to but not along the intersection of 4th Street and Folsom Street. Escalators, elevators, and stairs take passengers between the surface and the ticket hall, labeled as a Concourse level by the station. Gianni Moscon (born 20 April 1994) is an Italian professional cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in the road race. Early life and career Moscon grew up in the apple farms north of Trento in Trentino in the north of Italy. This led to him being given the nickname "Il Trattore", which translates to "The Tractor". Professional career Team Sky (2016–2021) In September 2015, it was announced that he had signed a professional contract with for the 2016 season. This followed a recommendation from Fausto Pinarello, of the company who manufacture the team's bicycles, who had seen Moscon winning amateur races and spoke about him to Sky sport director Dario Cioni.
