Morwalela Seema
Morwalela Seema (born 21 May 1949) is a Motswana former footballer who played as a striker for Mahalapye-based club Queens Park Rangers, Township Rollers and the Botswana national football team. He retired from professional football in 1984 as one of the best Batswana to ever grace the game. Career Seema started to play football in primary school and joined the Queens Park Rangers development team in 1966. Two years later he was promoted to the first team and earned his first call-up to the national team, then known as Botswana XI. Although his travel was rushed, due to having been called later than the other players, and he had no proper football boots, he greatly impressed and even scored the team's only goal as they lost 3-1 to Swaziland. Seema would go on to become a regular member of the Botswana XI squad, hailed by some as the best incarnation of the Botswana national team. Mahalapye
Mahalapye is a town located in the Central District of Botswana. The town has about 41,000 inhabitants and is situated along the main road between the capital Gaborone and the second largest city Francistown. Mahalapye has a bus station, a railway station, a couple of hotels and a market area with many shops and fast food restaurants, Water Shed mall is the latest attraction to those travelling from Gaborone to Francistown, great place for refreshments. It also has several petrol stations, some open 24 hours per day. Being situated on the edge of the Kalahari desert it is quite dry, and the local waterways are dry except during the rainy season. The FA Challenge Cup, currently known as the Orange FA Cup or Orange Cup for sponsorship reasons, is the premier club football tournament in Botswana. Started in 1968 and first played as the Lions Cup, the tournament is based on the idea of giving lower league and amateur teams a chance to compete with top flight teams. It is based on the English FA Cup, which has become known for "giant killings" (lower league teams defeating top flight. History The tournament was started in 1968 as the Lions Cup. Botswana Premier League
The Botswana Premier League, currently known as the BTC Premiership for sponsorship reasons, is the highest level football league in Botswana. Organised by the Botswana Football Association, the league was formed in 1978 to replace the pre-independence Bechuanaland Union African Soccer League, which was regional. Participants in the first edition of the league included Tlokweng Pirates, Notwane, Black Peril, Queens Park Rangers and a team from Ngwaketse district. The league has always been dominated by the teams that are based south of Dibete or at the southern part of the country until the 2006–07 season when Ecco City Greens made history by becoming the first team from the north to lift the lucrative competition.
