Mort Lindsey
Mort Lindsey (born Morton Lippman; March 21, 1923 – May 4, 2012) was an orchestrator, composer, pianist, conductor and musical director for Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Pat Boone, Jack Narz, and Merv Griffin. Early life Mort Lippman was born in Newark, New Jersey on March 21, 1923. He attended Newark Arts High School. He served stateside as a lieutenant in the Army Air Forces during World War II, and received a bachelor's degree from Columbia College and a master's from Columbia University in the 1940s. He later returned to Columbia University, earning a doctoral degree in music education in 1974. Career In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Lindsey was part of a trio called the Playboys with jazz guitarist Johnny Smith and organist Arlo Hults at NBC. Orchestrator
Orchestration is the study or practice of writing music for an orchestra (or, more loosely, for any musical ensemble, such as a concert band) or of adapting music composed for another medium for an orchestra. Also called "instrumentation", orchestration is the assignment of different instruments to play the different parts (e.g., melody, bassline, etc.) of a musical work. ''Squeeze Play'' is an Ultra High Fidelity monaural phonographic album (33 RPM) which was released on the Dot Records label in 1956 (DLP-3024) featuring John Serry Sr. It includes an original composition by Serry, classical works, and popular music of the era. Ben Selvin serves as the musical director/producer for the album. The works were arranged by Serry and performed with his ensemble featuring two accordions, piano, guitar, bass, drum, vibes, and marimba. The liner notes of the album claim that The album was cited in a critical review of new popular albums of 1956 in '' The Billboard'' magazine and was described as providing beautiful performances which created a soothing mood, in contrast to common entertainment. Judy Johnson (born Betty Bonney; March 8, 1924 – January 29, 2025) was an American pop singer most notable for her regular appearances on the NBC television series ''Your Show of Shows'' in the 1950s. Early in her career, she was billed under her birth name. Early years Judy Johnson was born Betty Bonney on March 8, 1924 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In the late 1930s, Johnson and her family moved to Nutley, New Jersey, and while there she learned tap dancing. After two years, they moved back to Norfolk. There she began singing on a radio station and began singing with a band at age 11. She performed at age 14 as a dancer and singer in a tent show headed by Gene Austin.
