Morrison Mann MacBride
Morrison Mann MacBride (August 20, 1877 June 5, 1938) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario who represented the riding of Brant South from 1919 to 1926 and the riding of Brantford from 1934 to 1938. He served in the cabinet of Mitchell Hepburn. He entered politics as a member of the Labour party. From 1934 to 1937 he served as an Independent and from 1937 to 1938 he was a member of the Liberal party. Background Born in White Lake, Ontario in 1877 to Archibald MacBride and Janet Strang. MacBride was educated nearby in Arnprior. He was the nephew of John Ferguson, who represented Renfrew South from 1887 to 1900, and was also related to Richard McBride, a former Premier of British Columbia. He was married to Louisa Elizabeth Hoff in 1899. He learned the printing trade and reported for the ''Ottawa Free Press''. Renfrew South (federal Electoral District)
Renfrew South was a federal riding represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1968. It was located in the province of Ontario. The federal riding was created by the British North America Act 1867 and was abolished in 1966, with the riding being apportioned into Frontenac—Lennox and Addington, Lanark and Renfrew, and Renfrew North. Walter Rollo
Walter Ritchie Rollo (November 25, 1875 – March 13, 1957) was a Canadian trade unionist and politician in the early 20th century, and was a cabinet Minister in the United Farmers of Ontario - Labour coalition government from 1919 to 1923. Early life Born in Linlithgowshire, Scotland in 1875, he emigrated to Canada in 1883 and was a broom-maker in Hamilton, Ontario by 1899. He married Margaret Bell of Berlin, Ontario in the same year. When the 9lst Regiment Canadian Highlanders was formed in Hamilton in 1903, Rollo enlisted and rose over time to become its colour sergeant. Labour leader Rollo was secretary of the Hamilton Trades and Labour Council from 1906 to 1919. In 1919, he also became editor of the ''Labor News'', a Hamilton-based union paper. Edgar Albert Guest (20 August 1881 – 5 August 1959) was a British-born American poet who became known as the People's Poet. His poems often had an inspirational and optimistic view of everyday life. Early life Guest was born in Birmingham, England in 1881, to Edwin and Julia Wayne Guest. In 1891, his family moved from England to Detroit, Michigan, where Guest for the rest of his life. Career After he began at the ''Detroit Free Press'' as a copy boy and then a reporter, his first poem appeared on 11 December 1898. He became a naturalized citizen in 1902. Lacrosse
Lacrosse is a contact team sport played with a lacrosse stick and a lacrosse ball. It is the oldest organized sport in North America, with its origins with the indigenous people of North America as early as the 12th century. The game was extensively modified by European colonists, reducing the violence, to create its current collegiate and professional form. Players use the head of the lacrosse stick to carry, pass, catch, and shoot the ball into the goal. The sport has five versions that have different sticks, fields, rules and equipment: field lacrosse, women's lacrosse, box lacrosse, lacrosse sixes and intercrosse. The men's games, field lacrosse (outdoor) and box lacrosse (indoor), are contact sports and all players wear protective gear: helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, and elbow pads. Brantford
Brantford ( 2021 population: 104,688) is a city in Ontario, Canada, founded on the Grand River in Southwestern Ontario. It is surrounded by Brant County but is politically separate with a municipal government of its own that is fully independent of the county's municipal government. Brantford is situated on the Haldimand Tract, and is named after Joseph Brant, a Mohawk leader, soldier, farmer and slave owner.
