Morris Subdivision
The Morris Subdivision or Morris Sub is a railroad line that runs about from Breckenridge to Willmar, Minnesota. Currently operated by BNSF Railway, this was part of the Great Northern Railway's transcontinental line from Minneapolis to Seattle, Washington. Today (as of 2010), BNSF's Northern Transcon travels up the Staples Subdivision instead, which is a more direct route to Fargo, North Dakota. U.S. Highway 12 closely follows the line between Willmar and Benson, while Minnesota State Highway 9 follows the line the rest of the way to Breckenridge. At its northern end, the line continues toward Moorhead as the Moorhead Subdivision. At the south end, it meets the Wayzata Subdivision line to Minneapolis, and the Marshall Subdivision to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. There is also a connection to the Appleton Subdivision in Benson and a BNSF branch line in Morris, Minnesota. Midway (Amtrak Station)
Midway (Saint Paul/Minneapolis) is a former Amtrak intercity train station in the Midway neighborhood of Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States. It was last served by Amtrak's daily ''Empire Builder'', with service from Chicago, Illinois to Seattle, Washington or Portland, Oregon. When the station opened March 1, 1978, it was also served briefly by the long-distance ''North Coast Hiawatha'' (with service from Chicago to Seattle), and the ''Hiawatha'' (Chicago to St. Paul) and ''Arrowhead'' (Duluth to St. Paul), the latter combined as the ''North Star'' (thru service from Chicago to Duluth) later that year. It was one of the first new stations, designated as a "Type 300A" design, built under the Amtrak Standard Stations Program in 1978. Minneapolis Great Northern Depot
The Minneapolis Great Northern Depot, also known as Great Northern Station, was a passenger railroad station which served Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. It was built in 1913 and demolished in 1978. It was located on Hennepin Avenue next to the Hennepin Avenue Bridge and across the street from the main Minneapolis Post Office. History The station was sometimes called the Minneapolis Union Depot, which actually was the name of the previous station on the opposite side of Hennepin Avenue that had been in use for 30 years. The older Union Depot was razed; today, that site is used for loading docks by the central downtown Minneapolis Post Office. Empire Builder
The ''Empire Builder'' is a daily long-distance passenger train operated by Amtrak between Chicago and either Seattle or Portland via two sections west of Spokane. Introduced in 1929, it was the flagship passenger train of the Great Northern Railway and was retained by Amtrak when it took over intercity rail service in 1971.
