Morrey Cross
H. Morrey Cross served as the International Commissioner of Scouts Canada. Morrey Cross graduated as a chemical engineer from McGill University in 1943, and immediately began his Canadian Army service. Upon discharge in 1946, he launched his career with Canadian International Paper Company (CIP), and in 1955 began his decades-long career with JWI Ltd. where he held various management and executive positions, in Montreal, England and Kanata, until his retirement at age 70. At age 12, he had begun a lifelong commitment to the scouting movement. Throughout his career he volunteered at all levels in the movement, from local troop leader, to International Commissioner for Scouts Canada, and representative at the World Scout Committee. During this time he was the recipient of numerous national and international awards for his service. Scouts Canada
Scouts Canada is a Canadian Scouting association providing programs for young people, aged 5 to 26, with the stated aim "to help develop well rounded youth, better prepared for success in the world". Scouts Canada, in affiliation with the French-language Association des Scouts du Canada, is a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). In 2019-20 youth membership stood at 53,259, an 18% decline from 64,693 in 2014-15. Over the same period, volunteer numbers also declined 18%, from 20,717 in 2015 to 16,885 in 2020. Bronze Wolf
The Bronze Wolf Award is bestowed by the World Scout Committee (WSC) to acknowledge "outstanding service by an individual to the World Scout Movement". It is the highest honor that can be given a volunteer Scout leader in the world and it is the only award given by the WSC. Since the award's creation in 1935, fewer than 400 of the several millions of Scouts throughout the world have received the award. History Scouting's founder, Robert Baden-Powell, initially recognized outstanding contributions to Scouting by any Scout with the bestowal of the Silver Wolf, but although he was Chief Scout of the World, the Silver Wolf was associated with British Scouting. In 1924, the International Committee, predecessor of the WSC, determined that it needed an award to be given out in its own name and at its own recommendation. World Organization Of The Scout Movement
The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM ) is the largest international Scouting organization. WOSM has 173 members. These members are recognized national Scout organizations, which collectively have around 43 million participants. WOSM was established in 1922, and has its operational headquarters at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and its legal seat in Geneva, Switzerland. It is the counterpart of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). The WOSM's current stated mission is "to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Scout Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society". Silver World Award
The Silver World Award is a distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). It is presented for noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth on an international basis. Recipients must be a citizen of a country with a Scouting program that is a member of the World Scout Conference. Registered members of the BSA are not eligible for this award. Award The award consists of a silver medallion enameled in blue with meridian lines, stars and the universal emblem of the BSA suspended from a red and white striped ribbon worn around the neck.
