Morningrise (EP)
English alternative rock band Slowdive have released five studio albums, three compilation albums, five extended plays, five singles and four music videos. Slowdive were formed in Reading in late 1989 by vocalist–guitarists Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell. The duo recruited guitarist Christian Savill, bassist Nick Chaplin and drummer Adrian Sell—who left the band after they signed to Creation Records and before the release of their eponymous EP ''Slowdive'' in 1990. Released to critical acclaim from the alternative press, ''Slowdive'' was succeeded by a further two EPs, ''Morningrise'' and ''Holding Our Breath'' (1991), both of which placed in the UK Singles Chart; ''Holding Our Breath'' reached number 5 on the UK Independent Singles Chart. Slowdive
Slowdive is a British rock band that formed in Reading, Berkshire, in 1989. The band consists of Rachel Goswell on vocals and guitar, Neil Halstead on vocals and guitar, Christian Savill on guitar, Nick Chaplin on bass and Simon Scott on drums, all of whom have played on the band's debut '' Just for a Day'' in 1991. Halstead is the band's primary songwriter. Goswell and Halstead had known each other since early childhood. The band is one of the most prominent within the shoegaze scene, which rose to prominence in England during the early 1990s. ''Souvlaki'' is the second studio album by English rock band Slowdive. It was recorded in 1992, and released on 1 June 1993 by Creation Records. On its initial release, ''Souvlaki'' peaked at number 51 on the UK Albums Chart and was greeted with tepid reviews from critics. It has since received retrospective critical acclaim and has been hailed as a classic of the shoegaze genre. Background Prior to the writing of ''Souvlaki'', Slowdive co-vocalists and guitarists Rachel Goswell and Neil Halstead had ended their relationship and Halstead began to spend more time writing songs alone, a process that had been completed by the full band in the past. The album's title was taken from a skit by American comedy duo The Jerky Boys, where one of the duo prank calls a hotel manager asking him to perform sexual acts on his wife. Ultratop
Ultratop is an organization which generates and publishes the official record charts in Belgium. Ultratop is a non-profit organization, created on the initiative of the Belgian Entertainment Association (BEA), the Belgian member organization of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. In the United Kingdom, its charts include ones for singles, albums and films, with the data compiled from a mixture of downloads, purchases (of physical media) and streaming. ''Slowdive'' is the fourth studio album by English rock band Slowdive. It was released on 5 May 2017 by the record label Dead Oceans. It was Slowdive's first studio album in 22 years, following ''Pygmalion'' (1995). It was also the band's first album since ''Souvlaki'' (1993) to feature the drummer Simon Scott as a member. Mojave 3 were a British rock band consisting of former Slowdive members Neil Halstead (vocals, guitar), Rachel Goswell (vocals, guitar) and Ian McCutcheon (drums) alongside keyboardist Alan Forrester and former Chapterhouse guitarist Simon Rowe. The band formed as a trio shortly after Slowdive's breakup in 1995, adding Forrester and Rowe after the release of their debut album. Mojave 3 released three albums before going on a hiatus and returning to live performances in 2011, but have been inactive since. History The band initially existed as a trio, consisting of Neil Halstead, Rachel Goswell, and McCutcheon. ''Pygmalion'' is the third studio album by English rock band Slowdive, released on 6 February 1995 by Creation Records. It was the group's final album before their reformation in 2014, and their only album with Ian McCutcheon, who had replaced Simon Scott on drums. Composition A departure from Slowdive's previous two studio albums '' Just for a Day'' (1991) and '' Souvlaki'' (1993), ''Pygmalion'' features a more experimental sound tilted towards ambient electronic music, with sparse, atmospheric arrangements. Simon Scott (drummer)
Simon Scott (born 3 March 1971) is an English musician, best known as the drummer in Slowdive and formerly of Lowgold and The Charlottes. He also fronted Inner Sleeve/Televise, and has released ambient music as a solo artist. Career Born in Cambridge, Scott first started drumming with female fronted Huntingdon band The Charlottes in 1987 at the age of 16, having recorded two studio tracks a year earlier as part of Honey Chainsaw. He left the Charlottes in 1990 to replace original drummer Adrian Sell in Slowdive who supported them in London at The White Horse in Hampstead. He played on albums '' Just for a Day'' and '' Souvlaki'', which was voted in ''The Guardian'' as "One of the top 50 albums to hear before you die" in 2007. UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data.
