Morges railway station () is a railway station in the municipality of Morges, in the Swiss canton of Vaud. It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Lausanne–Geneva line of Swiss Federal Railways and the eastern terminus of the gauge Bière–Apples–Morges line of Transports de la région Morges-Bière-Cossonay (MBC). Layout and connections Morges has two island platforms and a side platform serving five passenger tracks. The gauge trains of the Transports de la région Morges-Bière-Cossonay (MBC) use track 5, on the north side of the station; the standard gauge trains of Swiss Federal Railways use the other four tracks. Morges (; , Plurale tantum, plural, probably Ablative (Latin), ablative, else dative; ) is a Municipalities of Switzerland, municipality in the Switzerland, Swiss Cantons of Switzerland, canton of Vaud and the seat of the Morges District, district of Morges. It is located on Lake Geneva, west of Lausanne. History Morges is first mentioned in 1288 as ''Morgia''. The InterRegio, often shortened to IR, is a train categories in Europe, train category for mainly domestic train services in use in some European countries, with Swiss Federal Railways operating the most dense network. InterRegio trains are semi-fast long-distance trains with more stops and usually lower prices than more upscale long-distance trains such as the InterCity (IC). Denmark The InterRegio system was also introduced to the Danish railways in the early 1990s and became an alternative to the InterCity services, with no seat reservation required. A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway. A station having dual side platforms, one for each direction of travel, is the basic design used for double-track railway lines (as opposed to, for instance, the island platform where a single platform lies between the tracks).
