The City of Merri-bek () is a Local government areas of Victoria, local government area in metropolitan Melbourne, Australia. It comprises the inner northern suburbs between 4 and 11 kilometres from the Melbourne central business district, Melbourne CBD. The Merri-bek local government area covers , and in June 2018, it had a population of 181,725. The local government area was created as the City of Moreland in 1994 during the amalgamations of local governments by the Victorian Government, state government, being created from the former local government areas of the City of Brunswick, the City of Coburg and the southern part of the City of Broadmeadows. It was renamed to Merri-bek in September 2022. Moreland Moses le Blanc (born 25 May 1989) is a Sint Maarten cricketer who has played at first-class level for the Leeward Islands and at Twenty20 level for Sint Maarten. Born on the island, le Blanc played for the Leeward Islands under-19 team in the 2007 West Indies Under-19 Challenge, and led the competition's batting averages with 306 runs at an average of 61.20 from five matches. He and Kenroy David were the only Sint Maarteners in the team. After his performance in the tournament, le Blanc was selected to represent Sint Maarten in the 2008 edition of the Stanford 20/20, which featured 21 teams from around the Caribbean region. The team's preliminary round match, against Cuba, was cancelled, and Sint Maarten proceeded straight to the first round of the tournament. Moreland Act
The Moreland Act was an act passed by the New York Legislature and signed into law in 1907. It was introduced by Sherman Moreland, the Republican leader of the legislature. He proposed the act at the urging of New York Governor Charles Evans Hughes. It was known as Section 7 of the Executive Law from 1907 to 1909 and Section 8 from 1909 to 1951. It is now known as Section 6 of the Executive Law. The act allows the governor, in person or through one or more persons appointed by the governor, to examine management and affairs of any department, board, bureau or commission in the state. Investigators could interview witnesses, administer oaths, hold hearings, and seize any material deemed relevant to the investigator's case. The investigators then had to use that intelligence to recommend legislative actions. The Moreland Motor Truck Company of Burbank, California, was originally located in Los Angeles. The Moreland trucks were sold worldwide. History The Moreland Motor Truck Company started in Los Angeles in 1911. Moreland was an innovative company that produced 70% of its trucks on-site, they introduced the "Gasifier" in the early 1900s, which allowed gas engines to run on petroleum distillates, similar to kerosene. The trucks came with a one-year warranty, much better than the standard 90 day warranty of most truck companies at the time. In 1917 Watt L. Moreland was planning to move his business to Alhambra, California. When Burbank city officials heard about this news they offered Moreland of land free of cost, located on the corner of San Fernando Blvd. and Alameda Ave. The city of Burbank raised $25,000 to pay for the land, buildings were constructed and the truck company moved in, after which Moreland trucks carried the "Made in Burbank" label. The Moreland School is a historic landmark in San Jose, California, San Jose, Santa Clara County, California, Santa Clara County, California, USA, as California's first rural school district in the state in 1851. The first public school building was the former residence of Zechariah Moreland. It was acquired for use as a school on November 13, 1852, through the efforts of the school's third teacher, Samuel Curtis Rogers. The building stood at the intersection of Payne and Saratoga Avenues. In 1951, the old Moreland School building was dismantled from its original location, making way for the Moreland Apartments. On November 6, 1953, the California State Parks, California State Park Commission, erected a commemorative plaque that designates this site as California Historical Landmark #489, the oldest known rural school district in California.
