More Pay, Less Work
''More Pay, Less Work'', also listed as ''More Pay – Less Work'', is a 1926 American silent comedy film directed by Albert Ray and starring Albert Gran, Mary Brian, and Charles "Buddy" Rogers. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Cappy Ricks is still in competition in the shipping business with his friend Dad Hinchfield. Cappy's daughter Betty and Hinchfield's son William are in love, but the parental feud is a handicap. During his father's absence, Willie decides to put some old-fashioned business practices out of existence. He installs a modern system and a flapper office force. He lands a large order from one of Cappy's clients and puts up a $50,000 bond that certain cargo will be delivered at a location on time. This leads to an ocean sequence with adventures, but ends with the cargo delivered on time, peace restored among the old friends, and Willie and Betty headed for the altar. Albert Ray (August 28, 1897 – February 5, 1944) was an American film director, actor, and screenwriter. He directed more than 70 films between 1920 and 1939. Flappers were a subculture of young Western women prominent after the First World War and through the 1920s who wore short skirts (knee length was considered short during that period), bobbed their hair, listened to jazz, and flaunted their disdain for prevailing codes of decent behavior. Flappers have been seen as brash for wearing excessive makeup, drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes in public, driving automobiles, treating sex in a casual manner, and otherwise flouting social and sexual norms. Heinie Conklin (born Charles John Conklin; July 16, 1880July 30, 1959) was an American actor and comedian whose career began in the silent film era. Early years Conklin was born Charles John Conklin on July 16, 1880, in San Francisco, California. He attended San Francisco's public schools. Career In vaudeville, Conklin headlined shows on the Keith and Orpheum circuits. He was billed as Charles Conklin until 1927. He began working in films in 1915 after 17 years on stage and in vaudeville. One of the original Keystone Cops, Conklin wore makeup of heavy eyebrow lining and a thin, upside-down, painted-on variation of Kaiser Wilhelm's mustache. In areas where anti-German sentiments still ran high during the post-World War I era, Conklin was billed as Charlie Lynn. Otto F. Hoffman (May 2, 1879 – June 23, 1944) was an American film actor. He appeared in almost 200 films between 1915 and 1944. He was born in New York City and died in Los Angeles, California, from lung cancer. Hoffman's Broadway credits include ''The Strange Woman'' (1913), ''The Spring Maid'' (1910), and ''A Broken Idol'' (1909). He was also active in stock theater productions.
