Moonlight Over Baler
''Moonlight Over Baler'' is a 2017 Filipino historic romantic film starring Elizabeth Oropesa, Ellen Adarna, Vin Abrenica and Sophie Albert. The film is directed by Gil Portes, written by Eric Ramos and is under the production of T-Rex Productions (Rex Tiri). The film is shot in the historic town of Baler, Aurora. The film was entered for the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival but was not selected to be part of the festival's Magic 8. Synopsis Set in the 1980s, the film tells the story of Fidela (Elizabeth Oropesa), a 65-year-old retired teacher who develops a special bond with a young Japanese photojournalist Kenji (Vin Abrenica), who has an uncanny resemblance to her lost love named Nestor (also played by Vin Abrenica). Nestor, who was about to marry Fidela in the 1940s, went off to fight in the war (World War II) and was killed. Decades later, Fidela met Kenji who was covering the EDSA revolution in 1986 in Baler. Gil M. Portes (September 13, 1945 – May 24, 2017) was a Filipino film director, film producer and screenwriter. Early life and education Gil Portes took up his Journalism at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines and received a master's degree in theater from Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, New York. Career His drama film, '' Saranggola'' (1999), won various awards at the Metro Manila Film Festival, including Best Picture and Best Actor. Elizabeth Oropesa
Elizabeth Oropesa (born July 17, 1954), also known as La Oropesa, or "Boots" to friends is a Filipina actress. She was a Grand Slam Best Actress winner for ''Bulaklak Ng Maynila'' (1999). She was crowned as Miss Luzon of the Miss Republic of the Philippines (RP) 1972. She was one of the Miss White Castle models in the mid-70s. Baler (, , , ; ), officially the Municipality of Baler (; ), is a municipality and capital of the province of Aurora, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 43,785 people. 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival
The 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is the 42nd edition of the annual Metro Manila Film Festival held in Metro Manila and throughout the Philippines. It is organized by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). This is the first time that the festival committee required producers to submit either picture lock versions or finished films, instead of screenplays in previous editions.
