Monty Brown (footballer)
Montague Brown (22 April 1913 – 31 December 1976) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He was captain of the Carlton Reserves team in 1938. At the start of the 1939 season Brown was given a clearance to the Camberwell, the next year he was cleared to Bacchus Marsh, then in 1945 he was cleared to Echuca. Camberwell Football Club was an Australian rules football club which formed around the mid-1880s, with a published match in 1886 and competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) between 1926 and 1990. Nicknamed the Cobras, Camberwell wore blue, white and red club colours. They were based in the Melbourne suburb of Camberwell. Bacchus Marsh Football and Netball Club is an Australian rules football and netball club, located in Bacchus Marsh in Victoria, Australia. The football squad competes in the Ballarat Football League, which is part of the Victorian Country Football League. The home ground of Bacchus Marsh is Maddingley Park, located to the south of Bacchus Marsh. The Echuca Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Murray Bombers'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the Victorian town of Echuca, Victoria. History The Echuca Football Club was formed in 1874, so it could play against the Rochester Football Club which was also formed in 1874 too. Echuca initially wore the blue and white colours. In 1890, Echuca won the Aitken Tropy, then 1891, Echuca East Football Club won the trophy, then in 1892, Rochester won the initial premiership and Echuca protested, which resulted in the two teams having to play a grand final match. Rochester refused to play, with Echuca travelling over to Rochester to play, but with no competing team, Echuca claimed the premiership match, after the first bounce. Volunteer Defence Corps (Australia)
The Volunteer Defence Corps (VDC) was an Australian part-time volunteer military force of World War II modelled on the British Home Guard. The VDC was established in July 1940 by the Returned and Services League of Australia (RSL) and was initially composed of ex-servicemen who had served in World War I. The government took over control of the VDC in May 1941, and gave the organisation the role of training for guerrilla warfare, collecting local intelligence and providing static defence of each unit's home area. General Harry Chauvel, who had retired in 1930, was recalled to duty in 1940 and appointed Inspector-General of the VDC. Chauvel held this position until his death in March 1945.
