Montuno (song)
"Montuno" ("Montuno") is a 1993 song by American singer and songwriter Gloria Estefan. It was released as the fourth single released from her first Spanish album, ''Mi Tierra''. The song saw a UK release only as "Mi Buen Amor" and " ¡Sí Señor!..." were released simultaneously as the album's fourth single in Latin America and Europe respectively. In the UK, it was released in December 1993 as a Limited Edition CD maxi and 7" vinyl. A 2 track CD single was released in some European countries. This single contained a special remix of Estefan's classic hit "Dr. Beat", the Hustlers Up-Town Full Length Disco Remix. Gloria Estefan (; born Gloria María Milagrosa Fajardo García; born 1 September 1957) is a Cuban-American singer, actress, and businesswoman. Estefan is a seven-time Grammy Award winner, a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, and has been named one of the Top 100 greatest artists of all time by both VH1 and '' Billboard''. ''Mi Tierra'' (''My Homeland'') is the third studio album by Cuban-American recording artist Gloria Estefan, released on June 22, 1993, by Epic Records. Produced by husband Emilio Estefan, it is a Spanish-language album and pays homage to her Cuban roots. The album features Cuban musical genres, including boleros, danzón and son music. Recorded at Crescent Moon Studios in Miami, Florida, ''Mi Tierra'' features notable Latin musicians such as Tito Puente, Arturo Sandoval, Cachao López, Chamin Correa and Paquito D'Rivera. The album was an international success, selling over five million copies worldwide. Son Montuno
Son montuno is a subgenre of son cubano developed by Arsenio Rodríguez in the 1940s. Although ''son montuno'' ("mountain sound") had previously referred to the ''sones'' played in the mountains of eastern Cuba, Arsenio repurposed the term to denote a highly sophisticated approach to the genre in which the montuno section contained complex horn arrangements. He also incorporated piano solos and often subverted the structure of songs by starting with the montuno in a cyclic fashion. For his approach, Arsenio had to expand the existing ''septeto'' ensemble into the '' conjunto'' format which became the norm in the 1940s alongside big bands. Arsenio's developments eventually served as the template for the development of genres such as salsa, songo and timba. "Tradición" ("Tradition") is a 1993 song by Cuban American singer and songwriter Gloria Estefan. It was released as the third single from her first all Spanish-language album, ''Mi Tierra'' (1993). The song is heavily influenced by African and Cuban rhythms, and became the first song by Estefan to top the US ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Play chart, even though it was a Spanish language song. ''The Mambo Kings'' is a 1992 musical drama film based on the 1989 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel ''The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love'' by Oscar Hijuelos. The film was directed and produced by Arne Glimcher, and stars Armand Assante, Antonio Banderas, Cathy Moriarty and Maruschka Detmers. Set in the early 1950s, the story follows Cesar (Assante) and Nestor Castillo (Banderas), brothers and aspiring musicians who find success and stardom after fleeing from Havana, Cuba to New York City to escape danger.
