Montreal River (Algoma–Sudbury, Ontario)
The Montreal River is a river in Algoma and Sudbury Districts, Ontario, Canada. It is a tributary of Lake Superior. Course The river begins at Montreal Lake at the community of Island Lake in northwest Sudbury District. It heads southwest, passes into Algoma District, reaches the forebay lake above Montreal Falls, and then the settlement and railway station of Montreal Falls themselves on the Algoma Central Railway. It heads west, and passes under Ontario Highway 17 just before reaching its mouth at Lake Superior at the community of Montreal River Harbour. Hydroelectricity There are four hydroelectric dams and generating stations on the Montreal River, all owned and operated by Brookfield Renewable Power. The Montreal River is a river in Timiskaming District, Ontario, Canada. It travels from its source at Smoothwater Lake to its mouth at Lake Timiskaming on the Ottawa River. The river is a significant source of hydroelectricity. Course The Montreal River has an inverted check mark shape, first flowing north east, then south east to its mouth. It begins at Smoothwater Lake in Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park. Ishpatina Ridge, the highest point in Ontario, lies in the Montreal River drainage basin just south of Smoothwater Lake, and separates the headwaters of the Montreal River proper, to the northwest, and the headwaters of the tributary Lady Evelyn River, which joins far downstream, to the southeast. Montreal River is a river in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It flows from Montreal Lake to Lac la Ronge and is part of the Churchill River and Hudson Bay drainage basins. Along its course, Montreal River runs through boreal forests, muskeg, and glacier formed valleys. Within its watershed are the Waskesiu Uplands, much of Prince Albert National Park, and several notable lakes, such as Waskesiu, Kingsmere, Crean, Weyakwin, and Bittern.
