Widespread Panic
Widespread Panic is an American rock band from Athens, Georgia. The current lineup includes guitarist/singer John Bell, bassist Dave Schools, drummer Duane Trucks, percussionist Domingo "Sunny" Ortiz, keyboardist John "JoJo" Hermann, and guitarist Jimmy Herring. The band's original guitarist and sometime songwriter, Michael Houser, died of pancreatic cancer in 2002, and the original drummer, Todd Nance, left in 2016 and died in 2020. The band was formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1986, and is influenced by the Southern rock, blues-rock, progressive rock, funk and hard rock genres. They have been compared to other jam bands such as the Grateful Dead and Phish. Widely renowned for their live performances, as of 2018, they hold the record for number of sold-out performances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre ( Morrison, Colorado) at 66 and State Farm Arena (Atlanta) at 20. ''Live in the Classic City'' is the third live album released by Widespread Panic. The album was recorded over an April 2000 three-night run in their hometown of Athens, Georgia. It was released in June 2002 and features a mix of originals and cover songs, studded with guest performances from other star performers, including Derek Trucks, Bruce Hampton, and former R.E.M. drummer Bill Berry. The collection revealed the full range of musical styles heard at a Widespread Panic show, from tight hook-laden songs to extended improvisational jams, with seven tracks breaking the ten-minute mark. The album reached a peak position of #99 on both the ''Billboard'' 200 chart and the Top Internet Albums chart. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band
The Dirty Dozen Brass Band is a brass band based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The ensemble was established in 1977, by Benny Jones and members of the Tornado Brass Band. The Dirty Dozen revolutionized the New Orleans brass band style by incorporating funk and bebop into the traditional New Orleans jazz style, and since has been a major influence on local music. Beginnings The Dirty Dozen Brass Band grew out of the youth music program established by Danny Barker at New Orleans' Fairview Baptist Church. In 1972, Barker started the Fairview Baptist Church Marching Band to provide young people with a positive outlet for their energies. The band achieved considerable local popularity and transformed itself into a professional outfit led by trumpeter Leroy Jones and known as the Hurricane Brass Band. ''Light Fuse, Get Away'' is the first live album released by the Georgia-based band Widespread Panic. It was first released by Capricorn Records on April 21, 1998. It would later be re-released in 2001 by Zomba Music Group. The album was recorded over various concerts by the band in 1997. ''Pickin' Up The Pieces'' featured Branford Marsalis on saxophone and was recorded on September 7, 1997, in Boston. On April 18, 1998, the band played a free live show in downtown Athens as part of their CD release party. The concert was filmed and released on DVD and CD as '' Panic in the Streets'' According to the band, attendance was estimated at around 100,000 people. This in turn broke a previous record by Metallica for "largest record release party". The album reached a peak position of #67 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart. Vanguard Recording Society is an American record label set up in 1950 by brothers Maynard and Seymour Solomon in New York City. It was a primarily classical label at its peak in the 1950s and 1960s, but also has a catalogue of recordings by a number of pivotal jazz, folk, and blues musicians. The Bach Guild was a subsidiary label. The label was acquired by Concord Bicycle Music in April 2015. History The newly founded venture's first record was of J.S. Bach's 21st cantata, ''Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis'', BWV 21 ("I had much grief"), with Jonathan Sternberg conducting the tenor Hugues Cuénod and other soloists, chorus and orchestra. Street Dogs (Widespread Panic Album)
Street Dogs is the twelfth studio album released by American band Widespread Panic. Recorded at Echo Mountain Recording Studio in Asheville, NC, it was released September 25, 2015. This marks the first album by the band without drummer, and founding member, Todd Nance although he does receive co-writing credit on every song. It features Duane Trucks on drums. He was not an official member of the band at the time of its recording but had been performing live with them since late 2014. He joined the band as a full member in February 2016. Lead singer and guitarist John Bell has said in interviews that much of the album was recorded live in studio, with as little overdubbing as possible. Compass Point Studios was a music recording studio in the Bahamas, founded in 1977 by Chris Blackwell, the owner of Island Records. The concept of the studio was of a recording facility supported by in-house sets of artists, musicians, producers and engineers, all dedicated to a specific and recognisable sound and style. The session band at the studios, as well as visiting recording artists, became known as the Compass Point All Stars. Located on the island of New Providence, ten miles west of Nassau, the studio attracted musical artists from around the world to record at its facilities during the 1970s and 1980s.
